First snow

When the black of the night
Merges with the daylight
And the cold winter wind passes by
When the crops turn all white

Twirling visible in the air
When the skies get gray
When the birds are away
When all nature seems to sleep
When you wear coats outside
And you wear your boots high
Something candid falls down and you see

Twirls and shapes
All in white
While the milky skies from above
Let you free to hold on your tongue
Just a tiny flake of them all
While your hair gets wet
And you witness
The first snow.

When your jacket is ready to go
And the fire in the fireplace is warm
When you wake up on a Christmas morning
With gifts wrapped in gold
When you're stumbling to breakfast to eat
Got your eyes closed you're still half asleep
And you catch out the window a glance
Of the soft white glazed trees

Then the rush of adrenaline you get
To go out even with your bare feet
