Over the next week, we do nothing but study all day and night. We'll be taking the test tomorrow. I think we're all ready, but I'm still nervous. I look at Jace and ask, "Are you ready for it?" He replies, "As ready as I'll ever be." "We're going to do fine. We're all going to score over 165 and we're all going to get into Yale and you and I are going to find an amazing apartment to live in together. Everything is going to be just fine Jace, and I know this because we will be together." "That makes me feel so much better. I love you, Mila." "and I love you, Jace. As long as we have each other everything will be okay and I know this for a fact." He grabs me by the waist and pulls me in for a kiss and says, "I can't wait to go to college and begin our new adventure." "It sounds amazing, but guess what sounds even better. Jade won't be there." "Oh that's the best part." We both laugh and Jace says, "I should head home and get some rest. The test is early in the morning." "Yes, go get a good nights sleep. I'll see you bright and early." "I'll pick you up in the morning." "Okay, babe. I'll see you then." We kiss goodbye and I go upstairs to get ready for bed. I wake up the next morning feeling refreshed. I hop in the shower, get dressed, then head downstairs where everyone is already eating breakfast. Tracy says, "So, big test today. Are you girls ready?" "I got this," I reply. "I barely had any time to study so I don't think I'm ready," Jade says. Tracy gives her a look of disbelief and says, "How did you not have time to study? Mila studied for weeks. What have you been doing?" "I'm sorry I'm not Mila." Tracy says, "Well you had plenty of time to study so just do your best and I'm sure you'll do just fine. Mia, good luck. I know you'll get a score higher than 165 so go rock it!" "Thank you," I tell Tracy. My father comes over to hug me and says, "Good luck, sweetie. I know you'll do great. Jade, good luck as well. I know you'll do good too. You girls better get going so you're not late." I walk outside and Jace is waiting for me. Jade follows behind me and asks, "Do you mind if I get a ride with you so I don't have to wait for the driver?" I look at Jace and say, "Just let her. It's test day so she can't be late." He shrugs and says, "Okay, that's fine." We all get in the car and head to school in silence. When we get there, they have a line in the hallway. We find out that they've assigned students to different rooms to take the test. Jace and I just so happen to be assigned to the same class. We sign in and they take our phones until the test is over. We take our seats and the instructor comes in. "Welcome to the LSAT. This test will take 4 hours. There will be a math section, a reading section, and an essay section. Please don't open your test booklets until I tell you to. Again, you will have exactly 4 hours to finish this test so I will start the timer now. You may open your test booklet and begin." I start my test and I find it to be a little easier than I thought I would be. Two hours into the test and I'm feeling pretty confident. I'm on the essay part of the test and I am feeling great about this too. The instructor informs us that we have 45 minutes left. I'm almost done. I just pray that I ace this. It just sucks that we have to wait three days before we find out our score. The instructor says, "Okay, pencils down. Time to turn in your work." I actually finished the test! I can't believe I actually finished. We have the rest of the day off from school so we all go to my house to celebrate. "I can't believe we all finished the test! We did it, guys! How do think you did," I ask everyone. They all seem to feel pretty confident and I respond by telling them, "Well, we will found out in three days. Let's make a pact! The day we get the results, we all come back here and open them together. Deal?" "Yes! I love that," Brandi says. Everyone else agrees. "Doesn't it show what school best fits you as well as your score," Candace asks. "Yes," I reply, "So what school is everyone aiming for? Jace and I are hoping for Yale." Sarah says Yale, Matthew says NYU, Brandi and Candace both say Yale, Noah says Berkely, and John says Yale. "Wow! Let's make a toast to our amazingly high standards! Also cheers to always staying friends no matter where we are." "Nothing will come between our friendship. No matter which college we go to," Brandi says. We all hangout for a while and play the Wii. It begins to get late and everyone starts getting ready to leave. Jade and Scott walk in and Jade asks, "So I guess we weren't invited to the party?" "Yeah, and you won't ever be invited," I tell her. She walks up to me and says, "Okay, Mila. You win. You stole my boyfriend and you stole my best friend. Jace jumps in and says, "I was never your boyfriend." Sarah speaks up and says, "If you weren't such a bitch maybe you'd be apart of our circle. I'm so sorry Jade, but you are just not a good person. You tried to turn us against Mila and she's turned out to be one of the kindest and genuine people ever. What kind of person does that; especially to their own stepsister?" Jade says, "Sarah, we used to be best friends and you just dropped me like I was nothing." "Well Jade, I'm sorry, but I was tired of being your minion. I'm not a mean person. I never have been, but you tried to turn me into one and I just didn't want that. Mila and her friends are kind and that's what I need to be surrounded by, not toxic people." "Whatever Sarah, you'll regret not being my friend anymore," Jade says as she storms off. After everyone leaves, I go to Jade's room and I try to talk to her. "What is your problem with me? Like seriously, what did I do so horrible to you to make you hate me so much," I ask her. "You just come in here and take my place with Jace. Even with our parents. You just became the perfect daughter," Jade replies. "Jade, if you would just stop being a bitch and try to get along with me things would be better for you." "No, I don't want to get along with you. You stole the number one thing that I wanted." "What? Jace?" "No, Yale. You got me denied to Yale." "Jade, you did that all on your own. Not me." "Well you took it and I'll make sure that the same thing happens to you even if it's the last thing I do. "Okay, Jade. You're the only one in this battle. You're fighting this battle alone because I'm not engaging in it. Don't expect anyone else to either because everyone is over your drama. We're going to be graduating soon and moving on with our lives. You should do the same." That's the last thing I say as I walk out of her room. The next two days go by so slow, but it's finally time to get our test scores. The school hands out our envelopes and I want to open it up so bad. School finally ends and everyone heads to my house. We all go sit in the living room; even Jade and Scott are here. "Okay," I say, "so we're all going to do this one at a time. Who goes first?" Matthew volunteers, "I'll go first!" He opens his envelope and says, "Oh my God! I scored 165; that's awesome. My recommended school is NYU and Yale." Candace goes next. "I scored a 164! Good job girl and recommended school is Yale and Brown." Brandi opens her's and says, "I scored a 168! Alright! My recommended college is Yale and Harvard." Noah's turn, "My score is 163 and my college is Berkley and Brown." John is next, "Score is 164 and my college is Yale. Thank goodness, this is great." Sarah goes for it, "My score is 166! Oh wow I did not expect that and my college is Yale!" Jace opens his next, "My score is 170. Holy shit that's a high score! My colleges are Yale and Harvard." That's awesome, babe," I tell him. It's my turn to open the envelope and I'm so shocked that I can't speak. "What is it, Mila," Candace asks. "My score is 180," I laugh and say again, "I got a 180! Yale and Harvard and Brown and Columbia and Dartmouth and oh my God Stanford!" "Wait, all of these schools want you," Jade asks. "Babe that is awesome! I told you that you could do it," Jace says and gives me the biggest hug. "We did it, you guys. We all got recruited by the colleges that we wanted," I say. I look and Jade and Scott and say, "You might as well open yours." Scott opens his envelope and says, "I scored a 169. My college is Yale and Stanford."Jade opens hers and says, "I scored a 151 and my college is Nassau Community College." "I'm so sorry, Jade," I tell her. "I'm sure you are," she says. "I am. Maybe dad can pull some strings and get you into another Ivy school. It doesn't hurt to try." "Yeah, whatever. It's no big deal. He'll take care of me no matter if I go to college or not." "That's a terrible way to look at it, Jade. Just give up and live off of our parents' money; that's smart." "Well it's better than going to community college. I'm out of here," Jade says. Scott and Jade leave and we all celebrate our scores. "We did it, guys," I say, "We actually freaking did it. Now just five more months until we graduate. Congratulations, everyone!"
