CHERRY WALKED A COUPLE STEPS BEHIND TYSON!

She was busy reviewing the events that had led Percy up to the point of asking her for help.

Thalia's tree has been poisoned. The only thing that could reverse the damage was the golden fleece, the item they'd be retrieving once they retrieved Grover first.

Tyson pushed the door of the hut open with a proud grin. "Powdered donuts!"

Cherry picked one out of the box, taking a bite.

"Where did you get that? We're in the middle of the wilderness. There's nothing around for-" Annabeth began, but was cut off by the excited boy.

"Fifty feet. Monster Donut shop, just over the hill!" Tyson ate two donuts at once.

"This is bad." Annabeth muttered, stepping out of the hut.

Tyson led the way, gesturing to the brand-new donut shop in the middle of the woods. The quartet hid behind an old tree. The parking lot was empty.

"This shouldn't be here." Annabeth whispered. "It's wrong."

"What? It's a donut shop. A chain. We've got them in New York." Percy shrugged it off.

Annabeth looked at Cherry for backup. The girl finished the bite of her donut. "Monsters." She confirmed.

"And you let Tyson go in there?" Percy huffed.

"He's a Cyclops. It wouldn't have done anything to him." Cherry shot him an irritated look, matching his tone.

Tyson's eyes began to water like he was gonna start crying at any moment. He didn't understand what they were arguing about, but their arguing was enough to upset him.

"We're not fighting. Your brother's just an idiot." Cherry comforted, wiping the powdered sugar from Tyson's mouth.

"Better an idiot than a liar." Percy retorted, glaring.

"I didn't lie!" Cherry snapped.

With that, Tyson ran away. At least, he tried. He got a couple of feet before almost running straight into a seven-headed hydra.

"Scatter!" Annabeth yelled, diving to the right.

At the same time, Percy and Cherry tackled Tyson away from the monster. Each of the hydra's heads shot out acid.

Percy uncapped Riptide, drawing the monster's attention away from the pair on the floor. Cherry hauled Tyson up off the ground.

One of the hydra's heads was sliced off. The girl looked away, tilting Tyson's head to obstruct his vision.

She'd grown just a little meaner, but not any less sensitive to violence. Percy had never met a mean pacifist but there was a first time for everything.
