"So you're taking me to dinner and then a surprise?" I ask Liam once again with curiosity and amusement at the cliché idea because, how many times have you heard of a guy taking a girl out on a date like this?
Liam rolls his eyes and glances at me with one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the arm rest. "Yes. Now shut up."
I can't help the giggle that escapes my mouth thanks to the boy next to me. My eyes widen and I put a hand over my mouth turning to look out the window mentally scolding myself, giggling? What am I, a ten year old school girl? Rolling my eyes, I watch as our car parks in front of a very classy restaurant that I would usually never consider eating at. I turn to Liam confused only to see him shut the door and make his way to my passenger door where he opens it with a small smile, holding out his hand for me.
I take his hand and get out of the car while he shuts my door behind me and leads us to the front door. Liam tells the person who seats everyone something in his ear then flags over a waiter who leads us to a square table in the back of the restaurant next to a large window that shows the city around the restaurant. I just stare out the window for a moment taking in the view before Liam pulls out my chair for me to which I sit down a little awkwardly. He sits down across from me and we just sit in silence, looking at our menus.
A young man walks up to our table with a pad of paper in his hand and a fake smile on his face. When his eyes land on me the waitor looks me over with no shame and I look at him in shock before snapping my fingers making him look up at my face.
"Yeah, my eyes are up here buddy," I say annoyed while he just smiles at me. Freak.
"Sorry ma'am, it won't happen again."
"It better not," Liam threatens making the waiter look at him for the first time and I watch whatever confidence he had vanish in thin air. He looks at me shocked, then Liam, then me again. He looks like a cartoon character.
"Mr.Payne? I'm incredibly sorry sir, I should have known you would be here with yo-"
"She isn't who you think she is. Now leave. We each want a Pepsi," Liam says cutting off the man then looks at me when he walks off.
"Who did he think I was?" I ask leaning forward in interest for the answer. I had a funny feeling in my stomach waiting to find out, did he think I was a friend of Liam's? His girlfriend? For some reason that last assumption makes my stomach go crazy with a smile tugging at my lips but I try to play it cool and fight it.
"No one," He says looking at his phone. I can tell he's lying, not only because of what he said earlier, but he is avoiding eye contact with me. Whenever my dad would lie saying he was working late when he was really meeting his secret girl he wouldn't look any of us in the eye. I shake my head and knock on the table making him look back up at me.
"You're lying to me," I say simply looking him in the eye. He frowns and puts his phone on the table so he can grab my hand which I don't fight off.
"It's nothing Ashley, don't worry."
"If it's nothing then tell me," I say making him sigh. "Please?"
He looks me in the eye and brings my hand to his lips where he places a gentle kiss on my knuckles before saying quietly. "He thought you were someone special to me."
I furrow my eyebrows in confusion before what he says registers to me. He cut him off because he doesn't want anyone to know he has me around. I'm not special to him. At all. I didn't expect that to hurt but, it does.
