How hard is it to protect your innocence?

Did you hear about her?
She's going through it,
several times over and over
she's considering the bullet.
Wallowing in self-pity,
Gossip spreading going into deep
nitty-gritty.
It's no wonder she says she
Never feels pretty.

Did you hear about her friend?
Apparently she's a slag.
It's a shame she doesn't cover her vile face
With a paper bag.
Back and forth, back and forth,
the gossip travels.
It's overheard by the guys.
Much like her suicidal friend,
she follows in the footsteps of cried out
Bloodshot eyes.

How about him over there?
I heard he should be in jail.
The number of drugs taken
and the women shaken,
he's bound to get some illegal money making.
The guys who talked about sex and drama,
using their masculinity as a protective bubble,
strutting around causing trouble.
Hopefully they meet the one they call karma.

Finally, do you remember this young boy?
The quiet one who chewed on his sleeves -
nevermind the facts from the tales,
It's moreso what everyone else believes.
He was scared of human interaction
everyone deemed him weird.
He hid his eyes with his overgrown fringe
So he felt he could disappear.
'gross', 'strange', 'clinically insane',
'probably abused.'
But at least he wasn't vain.

Even when you want to protect yourself,
Divide from the latest 'hot goss',
it is thrown your way by people who spread
Personal facts of life
As if they were heated rocks.

Absolutely careless.
