Billy looked up at the stars on Dana's ceilings, a smile on his face as his arms were wrapped around the girl who was still asleep. He had been awake for quite some time, the thoughts of last night replaying in his head making it hard for him to fall back over. While they hadn't gone the whole way, they had definitely gone further than just making out and Billy craved her more than ever before after the small taste.
The bruise on his face was hurting but this wasn't anything new to him. Usually he would self medicate by drinking but given it was only ten in the morning, he opted for a different vice.
He carefully unravelled himself from Dana's grip and pulled his shirt back on before creeping downstairs. He passed by the first aid kit that had been left open, contents scattered on the counter. He put them all back inside and reminisced about Dana cleaning him up, he was used to covering it up himself with teary eyes in his cold bathroom. It felt nice to be taken care of, to feel a gentle touch; it was warm and comforting and reminded him of his mom when he was younger, he hadn't thought about her in a long time.
He grabbed his carton of cigarettes from his jacket pocket and sat on the back door step while sparking one up. He blew the smoke out his mouth, titling his head back and closing his eyes as the bright sky made them sting; a stark contrast from Dana's dark room.
Her neighbourhood was quiet, most people were at work or school already. He didn't miss school one bit, he hated going but he was determined to get his diploma to stick it to his dad that he was able to accomplish something.
He had full intentions of leaving as soon as he had graduated but Dana had thrown a spanner in those works. He couldn't leave her here, at least not like this. He didn't want to get ahead of himself at the same time, just because they had spent one intimate night together didn't mean he was going to drop the plans he had thought about all these months.
"I thought you'd left"
Billy flinched slightly, unaware of Dana's presence behind him. Though relief was now flooded on her face, he could still see remnants of panic.
"Course not" He replied taking another inhale.
He patted the spot beside him encouraging her to join, she bent down and crossed her legs looking out at the backyard that was scattered with a thin layer of snow. She pulled the sleeves of the hoodie down further to cover her hands from the cold.
She watched as Billy made his way through the cigarette. She had never really found smoking attractive, in fact she had told Steve off repeatedly for it but there was something about the way Billy smoked that quickened her heartbeat.
"Can I try?" She asked.
He seemed surprised by her question, never having seen her under the influence of anything except alcohol.
"Have at it" He replied handing her the cigarette that was halfway to being finished.
She had tried weed a few times but never a cigarette and even then she was too drunk to remember what it really felt like. She inhaled the smoke, letting it fill her lungs before blowing it back out like she had studied Billy doing.
It burned her throat and it tasted awful, she didn't understand how Billy enjoyed it at all; at least with weed, you get the pleasure of being high afterwards.
"Never mind" She coughed handing it back to him.
He tried to not laugh at her inability to keep the smoke down, she looked like a child that had just tried vegetables for the first time with the scowl on her face.
"Not for everyone" He smiled.
"It tastes nasty" She replied, nose turned up.
"You don't seem to mind it when my tongue's in your mouth" He smirked blowing out more smoke and finishing the cigarette.
