Chapter 47: Surprise for Savanaclaw!

"Fffaaah!! Look at all these!! There're so many things to eat!!" Grim blurts out in excitement, drooling over the food stalls. "Churros, flannel cake, and grilled chicken too!"

I nod in excitement as I walk alongside Grim, surveying the food stalls at my first Twisted Wonderland festival.

"Oh! They have cotton candy, popcorn..." I gush until the gloomy faces of Ace and Deuce loom into view. "Wait, what happened to you two?"

Ace shakes his head and heaves a sigh of disappointment: "Man, I can't believe I didn't make the team after all that..."

Standing next to Ace and looking just as dejected, Deuce mumbles, "Same..."

I pat their backs comfortingly and summon as cheerful voice as I can to pick up their spirits: "Cheer up! There's always next year!"

Ace and Deuce perk up again.

"At any rate, we've still got an important job to do today. We've gotta focus on that," Deuce declares seriously.

Ace's eyes light up: "You're right. We still have an important mission to accomplish. It's more important than playing in the tournament!"

"It's that takoyaki thing again! I wanna eat everything!" cries out Grim cheerfully, as though he has completely forgotten about the day.

Ace grabs him by the scruff of his ribbon: "Eat... It... Later! We have to go!" He carries the reluctant Grim along, with his limbs flailing in the air, to our post.

It's time to set the plan in motion!

From one of the isolated gates of the stadium, Ruggie is watching the cheering audience from the outside: "Ooh, it's really a lot of people. If we get this... Shishishi!"

Grinning at his thought, Ruggie pulls out a small bottle containing a glowing orange liquid from his front pocket.

"First, the potion I got from Azul... Gulp!"

With this sip, the colour drains from Ruggie's face, his eyes widen, his ears droop down on his head, and his tail puffs up.

"Pah! Blegh! What the hell, so gross! It tastes like rotten stew!" his face wrinkles in disgust, as he spits out the remnants.

Then Ruggie slaps his cheek lightly to focus and grins: "Pew... Gotta get my head in the game! Time to go! My unique magic!"

Pointing his magical pen at the stadium's entrance, he commands with a smile: "Run like a herd of wildebeests! Laugh with me!"

A bright glow emanates from his magical pen.

The full stadium is buzzing with cheers from the audience in anticipation of the long-awaited magical shift tournament.

"Ahem! Welcome to the Night Raven College Inter-Dorm Magical Shift Tournament. We apologize for the long wait. It is finally time to welcome our competitors to the field!" proclaims the announcer.

The audience lets out a thunderous cacophony of howls, yells and cheers.

"First up will be last year's champion. But can lightning really strike thrice? Give it up for the Reigning Light... DIIIIIAAAAASOOOOOMNIIIIIAAAAA!" At the prompt of this announcement, members of the Diasomnia team enter the field.
