Chapter 7

The bathroom was cold and the lights were dim. Occupied by only you and your thoughts. Sucking in a long breath, you placed both palms over the sink counter.

It was okay, you told yourself. It was just a long, irritating morning.

Your eyes scanned over the email that was sent, verifying your additional tutor session.

Year two. Porco Galliard. Requested sessions: 3

"So, Porco," you shifted your eyes back to the packet you were given. "Can you tell me what questions you want me to go over?"

The man's hazel eyes rose from the table, his pencil freezing in place.

"Galliard."

"I'm sorry?"

"You're not pronouncing it right. So just call me Galliard," he huffed, leaning back in his chair now.

Sitting upward, you pursed your lips while trying to find a way to reply. Off to a great start, huh?

"Oh, I'm sorry. If you tell me how to say it then I-"

"It's fine." he cut you off, tone rather harsh. "Just walk me through number seven."

Your forehead wrinkled upward, unable to hide your growing unease. You were surprised to see someone act so entitled, especially when you were trying to be understanding here.

I should have said no, you thought.

"...Please." Galliard continued, seeing as you were only staring at him silently. Maybe he could tell you were surprised.

The two of you continued to work through the questions for a good hour. As much as you wanted to keep a lively atmosphere, this man just didn't seem to care for it.

You couldn't help but overthink on what you did wrong. But at the same time there were always going to be people who sucked like that.

As you stared back and forth between the answer sheet and his work, all you could hear was the continuous tapping of his pencil. He didn't even have to say anything to know that he was growing impatient.

"You got all of them right," you paused, raising your eyes to the man in front of you. You watched as a smirk began to form on his lips, proud. But it didn't last long. "Except for number seven, again."

"This is bullshit," he leaned his head back, pointing his adam's apple towards the ceiling.

A few heads turned to where you both sat. You bit the inside of your cheek before clearing your throat.

"It's okay, I can break it down into smaller steps-"

"I'm already fucked as it is," he cut you off, a habit you were going to have to get used to. "I am not retaking this class for a third time."

More heads turned towards you. Including Levi's.

His brows furrowed as he looked between you and the back of Galliard's head. You knew he was curious. And you knew he was getting ready to act on it once you saw him close his book.

Shit.

"We can just pick up where we left off next week," you shoved your chair backward. You could see in the corner of your eye that Levi was now standing up as well. "I'll see you soon, bye."

Before Galliard could say anything, you rushed off, heading to where the bathrooms were located.

It was fine. Porco would leave, and Levi will stay out of it. You can deal with things on your own.

"I just keep running away," you mumbled, looking back up towards your reflection in the mirror. "Don't I?"

Maybe it was a bad idea to take up tutoring in the hopes of keeping busy. Maybe you should just go back home, and feel even more isolated for the remaining few weeks.

You shut your eyes before sucking in another breath.

It was fine.

"Y/N? You in here?"

Your heart nearly froze in place. Whipping your head around, you watched as the door squeaked open.

It was Hange.

"Oh, yes, I'm okay," you took your hands off the counter, facing her fully. "I just needed some fresh air, y'know how it is."

"Fresh air?" Hange repeated, stepping closer. "The bathroom may not be the best place for that."

You couldn't help but laugh when she brought a hand to her chin, as if seriously thinking about it. She then proceeded to smile once she saw your calmed stature.

"I figured you wanted to be alone for a minute," Hange turned her back, leaning against the sink beside you. "But Levi practically ripped me from my chair."

It was a bit strange to think Levi had enough trust to send this person after you, especially when you barely met her just a few hours ago. Either way, it's still a little touching to know he's worried. To imagine him glancing back and forth from his student to the door that concealed you both.

"Are the two of you close?" you questioned, turning back to the mirror. "You and Levi, I mean."

Adjusting her glasses, Hange only scoffed in a light manner.

"I'd like to think so, but he'd probably only describe me as a thorn in his side."

You tilted your head, raising a single brow.

"Oh?"

"He's convinced i'm stealing his students on purpose," she shook her head, looking back up at you. "But what can I say? He's too gloomy and strict for his own good."

A silence drifted throughout the bathroom, and you weren't sure how to fix that. So all you could do was take another breath, pointing towards the door. You've been in here longer than you should have, anyway.

"Well, we should probably get back out there," you smiled. "Thank you for checking on me though, that was very nice of you."

Hange formed a large smile, following after you as you opened the door. A weird sense of sisterhood could be felt, and it was strange. Maybe it was just because Hitch wasn't here to console you like usual.

The main room was quiet. That was a fact you realized too late; seeing as most eyes were wandering around. Looking. Watching.

The table where you were set up was empty. Quite literally.

Porco was gone. And all of your belongings were neatly stacked and put away. A figure you also did not expect to see was casually sitting in your chair, holding your bag over his lap.

Your brows creased, and a soft whimper left your lips without realizing.

"There you are," Eren smiled, standing up to greet you. "I told Jean I had to step away for a bit, but I think i'll just ghost," he held out an arm, pulling you towards him in a consoling manner. "You okay? Want me to uber us takeout?"

His breath smelled like alcohol.

"That sounds nice," you smiled, allowing him to hold you. "My room or yours?"

You couldn't remember whether or not you mentioned taking up tutoring. And you definitely didn't expect Eren to show up unannounced either. Not when he has so much to do for the fraternity.

You followed after Eren anyways. You couldn't bring yourself to bid your goodbyes to Hange, who was standing mere inches from the ordeal. Or to thank Levi for his worries.

All you could really do was hold onto your bag silently, ignoring the eyes that followed.

And ignoring the fact that maybe, deep down, you do just run away.
