At Peace At Last

Chapter 1

3rd person POV:

6 pair of feet were kicking the sand while struggling to hold their owners weight after hours and hours of walking through endless sand world and collapsed citys

"Let's take a break everyone" Minho rasped out as he took out a bottle of water to drink

It has been nearly a week since the 6 teens escaped the clutches of WCKD. And 3 days since they lost a dear friend to a nasty virus that attacks the brain making the person become a zombie like monster

"How much longer? Are we nearing at least?" Newt asked even though he already knew the answer

"Just-just a bit more and we'll get to the Right Arm" Thomas looked towards the mountains they were heading to. The mountains that would save them, but they were much too far to consider the distance short. But even then no one wanted to give up. After all hope dies the last

"Come on let's go" Aris spoke as he reluctantly got up

"Wait guys" Frypan got up, his eyes wide "W-what is that?" He was scared

Everyone looked at the direction Frypan was looking at and their blood ran cold

There was someone walking towards them but they couldn't be sure if the said person was a normal human. Being in scorch for a week made them very well informed about the horror of cranks. After all they lost Winston because of them, they could not risk anymore. So at that moment they did the only thing that all normal teenagers would do. Run

They ran and ran without looking back until Newt started to slow down. The boy's leg was already at its limit. They all stopped to catch their breaths for a moment but jumped in fright when someone appeared next to them

"WHAT THE SHUCK" Thomas tried to punch the man but his fist was caught

"Children calm down already!" The man shouted effectively silencing them "I'm not a crank so don't run away anymore. You all are at your limits and barely standing. Not talking about your friend there. He's leg is broken. Now listen here, if you want to live and be safe then follow me"

"And why would we believe you!" Minho got up angrily

"Yeah for all we know you could be working for WCKD" Newt grimaced as his leg was hurting

"Why would you suddenly want to help us?" Teresa looked at the man suspiciously

"We don't even know who you are" Thomas got away from the man

Frypan and Aris got up as well and took out their weapons in case they needed to protect their friends

The man sighed "My name is Rick and I don't work for WCKD. Look kids if you want to stay here in the scorch and become food for cranks or get caught by WCKD again then stay here. I'm just trying to help ok"

Rick said calmly and waited for a response

Teens looked at each other. Each thinking the same thing. If they stayed here they would surely die either from starvation and dehydration or in the hands of cranks. Not talking about the chance of getting kidnapped by WCKD

Thomas looked at Newt. The boy was trying his hardest in staying calm and keeping a neutral face but everyone knew it was an act. Walking and running constantly was  making his already injured leg hurt even more. They could not risk with anyone's life when the chance of survival in the scorch was nearly 10% and who knows maybe that Rick guy would actually help them. After their silent conversation Thomas as the leader of their little group looked at Rick

"Fine. Help us...please" he said hesitantly. Hearing that Rick smiled softly "Very well now get up all of you, we need to go now. Hey kid-" He walked towards Newt "Can you walk? It's not gonna be a long journey. The distance is very short. Not gonna lie the stunt you lot pulled back there sure was something, but that helped" he helped Newt to stand up after getting a nod of conformation

"Wait what do you mean helped?" Teresa looked at the man confused

"Well little lady, when you ran, you ran in the direction that we needed to go thus covering nearly all of it. Ya'll are pretty fast" Rick chuckled and started to walk towards an abandoned and collapsed city

"Hold up now. You mean.....you did not stop us from running because we were running the way that you needed to go?" Thomas looked flabbergasted

"You basically....used that?" Frypan looked equally shocked

"Heh! Took you long enough you idiots!" Rick chuckled

"That was rude.." Aris mumbled while walking in the sand

"This shucking shunk is so weird" Minho responded while he and Thomas helped Newt

It has been 10 minutes since the teens started to follow Rick as he navigated through the abandoned city

In the meantime the 6 started to get suspicious of their <savior>. Now that they were peacefully walking they started to notice the strange things about his appearance

He had mid-length black hair and black eyes. He was wearing a robe like thing with suit underneath. But the strangest part was the fact that they did not see him get close to them it was like he just......teleported there but that's not possible............right?

"Um sir? Rick? Uhh h-how did you...........appear next to us suddenly?" Teresa asked after gathering her courage but Rick did not even look towards her

'Is he-is he ignoring me!' Teresa thought with widened eyes 'Why isn't he answering me? Is he hiding something?'

"Hey man where are we shucking going? You said that it would be a short trip, no?" Minho asked annoyed

"Bloody hell you kids have no patience" Rick grumbled

'Bloody hell?' Newt perked up at the familiar phrase he was usually saying

"Here we are! Behold the most important place in this world.......city...................whatever"

In front of them was a surprisingly intact looking café with big 《Leaky Cauldron》 written on top of it

"《Leaky Cauldron》 ? What  kind of klunk is that?" Frypan looked at the place with questioning eyes

"It's a very important place ok. Now come on, she's waiting" Rick walked towards it

"She? Who? Who is waiting?" Thomas asked confused

"Agh boy stop asking stupid questions! You'll know in a minute" with that Rick opened the door of the café and waited for the teens to walk in.
