OmniscientThirty minutes became excruciating by the second as Journee fixated her attention out of the chilled window, fidgeting nervously with her fingers.
In her head, she ran through the many possibilities of which the scenario could go. Would Tiana turn her away? Tell her she never wanted to be friends again? Or would she tell her all was well, and welcome her with a hug, or a kiss?...
She hoped and hoped the latter would be the case, but she knew it was unlikely to happen realistically.
As she ambled up the stairs of the apartment complex and headed in the direction of the door with the golden number '56' below the peephole, the singer's heart had begun to pound. Shaking her hands out by her sides, she took a deep breath of frosted winter air before raising a fist to softly knock.
Seconds that felt like eternity passed before she heard a voice on the other side.
"Who is it?"
Taking a step closer, she leaned in and spoke softly. "Tiana it's me..."
Almost immediately, she heard the door unlocking before it'd swung open, causing her to step back and pick her head up.
Mentally, she was elated to see the woman; as she always was now, good terms or not.
Her gaze subtly took in the tank top Tiana wore- without a bra apparently- and the pajama pants that sat low on her waist. Her eyes trailed back up to the woman's face, free of makeup as reading glasses sat on the bridge of her nose, and her hair was dressed in a headwrapped low bun.
Extracting her from her inner thoughts as silence had fallen between the two, she felt Tiana's hand reach for one of her own to pull her inside.
"Come here, it's freezin' out there," she muttered before closing the door behind Journee.
"I'm sorry, I-I know it's late, I just..." Her words trailed as Tiana had walked closer, seeming as if she couldn't care less about the time of night.
Journee fell still again as Tiana had come around to remove her coat for her, having yet to speak as she went to hang it up.
Even still, Tiana had hardly met her gaze, and it was beginning to wear on Journee.
She couldn't tell what Tiana was thinking, or how she felt. Her facial expression was annoyingly neutral in Journee's eyes. So she did nothing but stare in uncertainty while Tiana's eyes scanned her from head to toe. Then her breathing caught in her throat as the woman reached both hands to her cheeks, but her brows furrowed in confusion, for it seemed Tiana was looking for something.
It soon made sense once she finally spoke. "Are you hurt?? Did he hit you?"
"No," she whispered in a hint of disappointment and longing. "I'm not, I just.... Tee, I-"
"Why're you here then?" she stepped back and folded her arms, leaving Journee feeling cold now.
Attempting to find the words, Journee's head fell as she let out a soft breath.
"I... I wanted to see you... to talk to you..." Searching Tiana's eyes, her head tilted since the woman hardly gave her anything in response. "Tiana, I miss you..."
Suddenly finding the floor beneath her feet interesting, Tiana nodded to herself. "Oh..."
"Listen, I know you upset with me, and I'm sorry for leavin' the way I did..." Biting her lip to hold back her emotions, Journee exhaled faintly. "I can just go if you-"
"No." Tiana picked her attention back up. Their eyes met before she looked away at the living room beside them. "And I'm not upset with you...not no more. I had no right to be, you ain't owe me nothin."
