Synopsis

This is the story about the rebirth of a little gong with a sweet steamed bun-like little shou.

In the past life, little shou, in order to help little gong block a poisonous blade, ended up dying due to blood loss.

After the little gong is reborn he proceeds to dote on the little shou endlessly.

What I Think

The Emperor in this story doesn't truly love the main character (MC); he's more infatuated with the idea of him. It seems like the only reason the Emperor became interested in the MC is because he was the only one not involved in the treachery revealed by the Empress back then. Plus, the MC's family isn't a threat to the Emperor, which probably makes things easier for him. The Emperor does treat the MC well, though, so there's that.

I find the MC kind of endearing, but honestly, he wouldn't stand a chance in a real ancient Chinese harem with his personality. He's too naive and submissive, kind of like those characters in rebirth stories that end up being disliked for being too innocent. He does try his best, which is admirable.

Reading this novel felt a bit like watching the Emperor take care of his favorite pet. It might have been more interesting if the MC was the one who got a second chance at life. But given his personality, he'd probably still end up being the same kind of character without a major shift in his character traits.
