Stationed by a corner, Lizzy checked to see if he was still there. Indeed, the one she loved so heatedly – a boy named Thad – stood in the hallway talking to one of his friends. Lizzy had known Thad since he was a little boy and as such. She had met him during recess – actually, he had met her. Back in elementary school, Thad, in his childish bravado, had asked Lizzy if she would be so kind as to marry him. At least, such was what Lizzy was able to put together after a great deal of thinking, given the fact that Thad had to repeat himself multiple times (in his younger years, he had an awful stutter and had difficulty enunciating, especially when he was nervous or excited).

Needless to say, Lizzy turned him down. A dejected Thad sat on the swings and stayed there, succored by the support and pity of his football friends. Despite his sorrow, Lizzy didn't take the time to comfort him, seeing as she owed nothing to him. Weeks passed in which Thad didn't speak to Lizzy and tried his best to avoid her. The girl couldn't help but notice this strange development and, deciding enough was enough, took him aside and asked him whatever the problem was.

"Do you hate me?" he finally blurted after initially denying anything was wrong.

"Huh?" Lizzy said, surprised. "No! I don't really hate anyone. Except maybe that Genesys boy. He's just so... annoying. Like, honestly, I dunno how Uzi stands him."

"So... we're cool?" Thad asked with shimmering eyes.

"Sure, Thad," Lizzy said, smiling. "I won't marry you, but I'll be your friend!" Lizzy embraced him tightly, marking the start of their childhood friendship.

And so it was that the two of them began to get closer, albeit platonically due to Lizzy's friend-zoning. Eventually, Thad got used to Lizzy being just his friend, and he began to seek new horizons, unable to foresee a future where they could be together. But as Thad looked elsewhere for his dear love, Lizzy began to be enamored with the idea of Thad – her childhood friend – turning into her boyfriend and, eventually, her husband.

So now, she stood there, waiting at the corner in the hallway, trying to piece together how she'd ask him out. She sighed in a half-romantic, half-depressed way. On one hand, he could be open to her going out with him. But on the flip side, she couldn't help but experience the intrusive possibility that he wanted nothing to do with her.

"You just gonna stand there admiring him, or are you actually gonna talk to him?" a voice emerged from behind Lizzy.

Lizzy jumped in place to see Doll grinning like an idiot. "Doll, can you not?!" Lizzy said, frustrated.

"I really can't," Doll said, still smirking. "I can't help but try my best to cheer on miy lyubyy druzhe [my dear friend] to get the man she's fallen in love with."

Lizzy huffed a sigh. "If you must know, I'm trying to make sure I get the perfect moment to speak with him when he's not busy talking to that Chad kid," Lizzy explained.

"Oh? " Doll said with a playful tone. "Well, you wanna know what I'd do?"

"Seeing as how you're just gonna tell me anyway, why even bother asking?" Lizzy said with an exasperated look.

"I'd walk up to him and tell everyone, 'Vin miy, zrozumiv [He's mine, alright]?'" Doll fantasized eagerly. "I'd want everyone to know that he's mine, and mine alone... just like that Genesys boy!" She couldn't help but laugh evilly at the thought of having me as hers.

"I really must beg to differ," said Lizzy. "If I just go up to him and start flirting with him... and in front of all his friends, no less..." Lizzy began to get nervous just thinking about it.

"Nu, blin [Well, darn]," Doll exclaimed. "You always have overthought it with boys, you know. Alright, how about this: pretend that I'm Thad for a second, okay? Talk to me like I'm him."
