An old parable tells of a grandfather teaching his grandson about the internal struggle between our higher and lower natures.
"Inside each person," he says, "two wolves constantly battle. One wolf is prideful, fearful and angry. The other wolf is humble, compassionate and wise. The wolf that wins is the one we feed each day."
Pride ever threatens hubris, but humility offers reconciliation. When we nourish wisdom and community, integrity prevails. Yet if we feed resentment and ego, then isolation awaits.
The moral struggle continues, but we possess the power to choose liberation from false masks. By cultivating self-awareness, may we banish entitled shadows and come into the light. There awaits our shared humanity, vulnerable yet glorious.
This is the path home.
