The following days after the holidays were always the most busy days in the law firm you worked at.

The morning sun cast a golden hue over the bustling law firm as Myungjun, the distinguished CEO, and you, his steadfast secretary, made your way to the conference room. You were the Secretary to the Chief Executive Officer, Kim Myungjun, for a few years already. The two of you worked together perfectly and efficiently.

Today's meeting promised to be a challenge, a test of legal matters and emotional bonds. A couple on the verge of a divorce.

As Mr. and Mrs. Park, the married couple, entered the room, their faces etched with strain, Myungjun greeted them with a courteous nod. "Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Park. Thank you for joining us today. Please, have a seat."

Myungjun was a picture of a man in power and yet his expression was calm, trustworthy. His hair fell in bleached bangs around his face, one side slightly slicked back and his body was clad in a dark suit. His presence undeniable in the room- despite you and two lawyers, as well as other subordinates writing protocol, being present.

You observed the couple closely, noting the tension that lingered between them like a palpable force. Such personal matters were always upsetting.

The meeting commenced, with Myungjun leading the discussion with ease. Yet, as the couple aired their grievances, a subtle tension simmered beneath the surface and the discussion got louder. That was one thing you hated about your job- people were way too emotional in certain matters.

Which lead you to your next problem.

"I can't believe you're taking his side!" Mrs. Park exclaimed, her voice tinged with frustration as she turned towards Myungjun.

Myungjun raised a calming, pretty hand, his voice measured yet firm. "Mrs. Park, I assure you, I am here to listen to both sides. Our goal is to find a resolution that benefits both parties. I am in no position to take any side, understood?"

You frowned and couldn't help but interject, your own emotions bubbling to the surface. "But CEO Kim, can't you see that Mr. Park has been neglecting his responsibilities? He—"

Myungjun's gaze flickered towards me, a silent warning in his eyes. "Thank you, Y/N, but let's allow Mr. Park to speak for himself."

You knew, deep down, that Myungjun wasn't taking anyone's side. But as someone who had had bad relationships in the past, you couldn't help but sympathize with the wife.

Gnawing at your cheek, you glared slightly at the CEO who looked at you with a sharp, measured gaze. He was first to break it to focus back at the matters at hand, showing just how resilient he is. And also how he was in control.

You swallowed your retort, a pang of frustration gnawing at you. Despite your shared years of working together, there were moments when your professional duties clashed.

As the meeting progressed, tensions reached its peak, emotions running high as Mr. and Mrs. Park aired their grievances with increasing fervor. Myungjun remained calm amidst the storm, his intellect and compassionate demeanor eventually steering the discussion towards resolution.

Finally, as the meeting drew to a close, a sense of acceptance settled over the room. Mr. and Mrs. Park exchanged weary glances, their grievances laid bare yet tempered by the prospect of reconciliation.

The lawyers would handle the rest.

Myungjun offered his hand in farewell, his voice laced with sincerity. "Thank you for entrusting us with your case. We will do everything in our power to help you find a way forward."

As they shook hands and bowed, the married couple were the first to leave with the lawyers. Myungjun, you and the few subordinates stayed behind to finish up some paperwork.

Following the meeting, Myungjun summoned you to his office with a seriousness that might seem alarming to any of the other employees. They knew that their CEO was a dedicated and ambitious man so they would consider the two of you to talk about important things.

As you entered, however, he sighed, his expression betraying a vulnerability that rarely surfaced in the professional realm. "Y/N," he began, his voice soft, "do you think we will end up like Mr. and Mrs. Park?" His worry was genuine, and in that moment, you saw a glimpse of Myungjun's cute and sincere side, reminding you that beneath the CEO exterior was a man who was sweet and loving.

And your husband.

Your journey had begun in a crowded coffee shop eight years ago. Myungjun and you, both entangled in the demanding world of law, had found solace in shared conversations and stolen glances.

Myungjun had been twenty three and a lawyer working his way up the ladder while you, four years younger, had been an ambitious law student. He had helped you study and you had quickly fallen for his bright and sweet nature.

The initial friendship had transformed into a sweet romance as you had been struck between professional duty and personal desire.

And four years ago, shortly after Myungjun had got his lawyer license revoked in order to become the CEO, he had proposed to you and you had accepted.

The marriage had followed soon after, after he had almost tricked you his proposal had been a joke just to prank you, idiotic of him as always.

"Maybe we will." You replied, just to tease him. You were still a bit upset about his seriousness during the meeting that had caused him to seem like he had been taking the side of the husband.

"Y/N!" He whined, a pout on his lips as he slightly stomped his foot. He dropped into his chair like his inner turmoil was seriously that exhausting to him. "I'm serious, okay? Stuff like that makes me scared!"

Myungjun huffed and crossed his arms in front of his chest.

With an amused giggle, you crossed the distance between you two and sat yourself on his lap with both your legs next to his thigh. Your tight pencil skirt restricted your movements a little.

"Do you seriously think we will end up like them?" You said, gently. Your torso was turned to him as you cupped his cheeks and smoothed out his frown with your thumbs.

Myungjun looked at you; his eyes adorably big with his eyebrows furrowed and his heart lips pursed in a pout. "I just can't help but worry. We argue sometimes too."

You couldn't help but laugh at his seemingly innocent mindset. "That's not enough to make us split up. I promise."

The words served as reassurance and you leaned in, practically kissing the pout off his lips. He immediately melted into it, his hands moving to rest against your back, holding you close.

You leaned back slightly breathless. Myungjun gave you a smile that spoke volumes. His worries were often so easy to soothe, like a puppy that received a treat after an excruciatingly difficult task.

"Still worried?" You asked him with a smile, gently tucking his hair behind his ear.

Myungjun shook his head and pulled you close with such excitement, causing you to squeak in surprise as the force had almost knocked you both back and onto the floor.

"You won't get rid of me so easily, Y/N!"

His exclaim was a promise. One you knew he would keep.

After all, you wanted to spend the rest of your life with him.
