Ellis's POV

The house had been quiet since I moved in. Maybe too quiet. I didn't mind the silence; it was a respite from the constant noise at my old house. We had to move unexpectedly because my dad got transferred to Manchester for work. My dad left for work as soon as we arrived here. And my mom had left the country on a business trip before we moved.

Even though I'm left alone, I'm not mad at them; I understand that they have to work to support the family. I am kinda happy to be left alone if am being honest.

My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. I was a little surprised, as I wasn't expecting any visitors. I opened the door to find a girl about my age, holding a box of cookies.

As I looked at her, a flicker of recognition passed through my mind. She reminded me of someone I knew from high school. A girl I had a crush on but who had always seemed unattainable, even though we were friends. She moved away in middle school, and I hadn't heard from her since. I couldn't help but wonder what had become of her.

"Hi, I'm Chelsea," She smiled, her black hair falling gently across her face. "I live next door," she continued. "My mom wanted to welcome you and your family to the neighborhood with these homemade cookies."

I blinked, bringing myself back to the present. I took the box from her. "Thanks." I said, in an appreciating tone. "I'm Ellis. Nice to meet you, Chelsea."

Chelsea nodded, smiling slightly. Nice to meet you too, Ellis" she said. "I hope you enjoy the cookies, my mom is great at baking"

I raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in my tired eyes. "I'll take your word for it," I said. "Thanks again for bringing it over."

"Not a problem. have a good night." she said as she left.

As she turned to leave, I couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity about her. There was something about her that intrigued me, something that made me want to know more about her.

I was distracted by the vibration in my pocket, and when I reached for my phone, I found a text from Dad. It read "Hey Ellis, am sorry, but I won't be back home for another week." As I read the text, I was slightly disappointed, I was hoping he would be back sooner. but I understood he had to be at work at that moment. "Hey dad it's okay. I understand you have to work. I'll be fine. just keep in touch." I texted back reassuring him.

I placed the box of cookies on the kitchen counter, and headed to my room to unpack. I took a deep breath and let my thoughts drift to my new school. What would it be like? Would I make friends easily? my stomach tightened with a mix of anticipation and nervousness. I glanced around the room, which still felt unfamiliar, and sighed.

Once I was done unpacking, I made myself a cup of tea, and ate the cookies Chelsea brought, which actually tasted good. I guess she was right. Her mom is really great at baking.

I took out my phone, and searched for information about Oakmount High. I wondered if it's similar to the school I attended in Liverpool. I hoped I would be able to establish a writer's club, just like I did at my old school. Although there were only two members, I was still able to make a name for myself, after a few articles.

As I sat on the edge of my bed, scrolling through the Oakmont High School website, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement mixed with nervousness. The school seemed to offer a wide variety of clubs and activities, from sports teams to academic groups. I could see that there was a newspaper club.

I remembered how much I enjoyed writing articles for my old school's newspaper club. It was just me and one other member, but we managed to produce some impressive work.

As I continued to scroll through the website, I came across the section for extracurricular activities. I saw that there was a creative writing club, and my heart skipped a beat. That was exactly what I was looking for.

I mentally note to seek out the creative writing club when school starts. With that in mind, I set my phone aside and settle into bed, ready to doze off. "Tomorrow's Saturday, so that gives me two days before Monday." I said to myself before falling asleep.
