Hanna

The bass of the music can be heard all the way from here in the car where Sam and I are driving down the street. We're on our way to Max's house for the after-game party.

Max always throws the team parties after their games. Sadie and I came to a few earlier on in the year, there have only been a few considering we are first years and its only about halfway through the year. She's always come with her boyfriend Kyle and, I've sort of just tagged along.

Its been a pretty silent ride after the game. I feel so proud its so weird because I've seen him win multiple games since high school but I've never had this particular feeling before.

It's just he came right after the game ended.

To me.

And kissed me.

Infront of everyone.

My head has been buzzing ever since. I don't want to compare him to Josh but Josh never ever did that. Like everrr. I'm beginning to see how much of shitty boyfriend he actually was.

And also what does this all mean? Because he kissed me right in front of everyone, which means we're not so lowkey now? Because we come from a very small town. A lot of our mutuals from school go to either my Uni or Sams so a lot of people will know now.

Anyways I feel like I'm still lightheaded from that kiss because number one it was INFRONT OF EVERYONE and number 2 it was in front of everyone and number 3 Sam is a freaking good kisser. It was sort of like one of those scenes in the movies. Am I living my bookish romcom fantasy?!

Actually crazy stuff to think about.

The car comes to a halt and I'm snapped out of my internal ramble. Sam jumps out of his seat and I reach for the visor to add a fresh layer of gloss.

He opens my door and I take his hand stepping out of the car. It's a bit chilly out but I don't really feel it considering I'm wrapped in Sam's game jacket that practically drowns me.

"Thank you" I say with a small smile and we make our way towards the house.

"I haven't been to one of these things as not a third wheel since like the beginning of the year" I remark with a soft laugh.

"should be lots of fun then darling"

"Of course yes. You always offer a good time. That I know."

He smiles down at me.

I beam back up at him.

The lawn leading up to the house is scattered with people all drinking, making out or laughing in little groups.

I peer up to the modern home painted in shades ranging grey to white, with a flat roof and full glass windows.

Scanning my eyes around the house I come to a falter seeing Josh staring right at Sam and I and our intertwined hands.

I hold Sams hand a little tighter in response and look right past josh, as if I can't even see him. We're here to have fun and he can't ruin that tonight.

Sam pulls me closer, seeing the same thing and leads me into the house, greeting people as we go along.

"I'm going to go get us something to drink okay darling?"
