Missing You: A Decade Apart

It's been ten years since you left our side,
Ten years since graduation, just months apart.
From when you departed, breaking my heart.

Five years since high school, then college came through,
One year since I earned my journalism degree.
With each milestone, Grandma, I miss you.

Three years ago, my brother tossed his cap in the air,
As he graduated, your presence felt, though you weren't there,
Now, as my sister's turn draws near,
Your absence lingers, your voice I still hear.

Heartbreak and loss, I've tasted those tears,
Five years ago, my heart first bled.
Learning life's lessons, facing my fears.

With a driver's license now in my hand,
This year I graduated, spreading my wings.
I navigate life's roads, in a foreign land.

Peanut butter cookies and walks in the park,
Late-night movies and games we would play.
Memories with you, forever a spark.

I yearn to visit heaven for just one day,
To see your smile, to hear what you'd say.
To write you a letter, to share all my fears,
To feel your love, comforting my tears.

In my mind's eye, I picture you there,
At the poker table, surrounded by care.
With family and friends, all gathered near,
Playing cards and laughing, without a care.

Though miles apart, our bond remains strong,
In my heart, your love will forever belong.
Until we meet again, in that heavenly place,
I'll cherish your memory, with every embrace.
