you were staring at yourself through your vanity.
you'd picked out your outfit and done your hair properly.
the velvet table was somewhere you went when your parents has business meetings, so it was odd to be attending for a normal meetup.
you quickly slipped a long coat over your shoulders to cover the dress.
you walked downstairs to your parents conversing.
"where are you going?"
your father looked at you skeptically.
"i need to fix my nails. they're all broken and faded already."
you grabbed your purse.
"a shame. we were about to invite you to join us at the velvet table."
your mother looked unfazed when saying that sentence.
you froze.
"yep...a true shame. well, i'm gonna be late! bye!"
you dashed out of the door and started your car.
