the diner was packed with families, groups of teenagers, old ones, and of course couples

dally and i sat at booth near the back, away from everyone

i hit my head against the booth seat, while dally slouched in his spot

dally sipped his coffee, he looked at me as if i were a child

"what?" i raised an eyebrow, confused why he was giving me a look

"it's eleven in the morning and you're here drinking a milkshake" he laughed, "you love sugary stuff don't you?"

"yeah" I took a sip out of my milkshake. "i love strawberries a lot. if coke had a strawberry flavoured coke i would love it"

"that sounds like it would taste like ass" dally pushed his tongue against his cheek

I rolled my eyes, he seemed so dry. dally seemed like all he did or care was fight and fool around

"listen sweetheart" he said. "i brought you here so i'll be able to get to know you more"

"so?" i looked at him, waiting for him to speak further

he crossed his arms. "what even is your last name?"

i blanked out. the only people who knew my last name were those who were super close to me. i hadn't told anyone my last name in years

before i thought things through, i blurted. "sahota"

he looked confused at me, like he'd never heard my last name before

"i'm south asain" i explained to him. "people think i'm white or cuban but i'm indian"

"your aunt looks white though" dally's hands traced the rim of his cup

"she's also indian" i continued on. "i kept my last name a secret from the public so people wouldn't know my race. i love my culture and my identity so much i just have to hide it some times"

"aren't you indians you know?" dally crooked a brow. "big on like traditions and like i don't think your parents would be proud of your playboy magazines"

"listen dally" i sighed. "my parents loved me lots and lots. i lived with them and with my aunt, but when my parents went to new york to see my grandma they happened to die on their flight there..."
