Life is no walk in the park. It comes with many moments of joy and serenity, but it also has its moments of strife and pain.

Alexis POV

My life has been so fuckin' hard lately, I can say that.

I scoffed at that thought.

I looked at the envelope on my table. I almost fell earlier when I took a glance at what was inside. Who's in the right mind to give some stranger a bulk of money? No one. The envelope is full of one thousand bills inside. I don't know how much it is in total, but it's a lot of money.

Someone just came to my apartment, paid my whole year's rent, and even gave me this money. God! Why am I in this situation again?

I came back to my senses when I heard a knock on my door.

"Alexis, buksan mo. May dala akong pagkain. Alam kong hindi ka pa kumakain." I heard Aling Marta's voice outside.

Eh? Is she for real? Since when did she become my nanny?

"Ayuko. You might have put some poison in it. I don't wanna die yet," I answered.

"Alexis tsismosa ako, pero hindi ako mamamatay tao. Kaya buksan mo na tong pinto, at kunin tong pagkain dahil nangangalay na ako." I rolled my eyes in her response.

"Yeah, yeah." I stood and went to the door.

"Why are you doing this, Aling Marta? Don't tell me you hit your head somewhere?" I ask while looking at her intently.

"Sira ulo ka talagang bata ka. Hindi ba pwedeng natuwa lang ako kasi wala ka ng utang sa akin?" She said.

Whatever.

"Just make sure there is no poison in here, Aling Marta. Pag ako namatay, I will hunt you." My last words before I closed the door that almost hit her face.

"Alexis!" I can hear her scream outside. Who wouldn't?

I didn't hesitate to answer her, as my nostrils were focusing on the food she gave me. I was about to dig in when my phone rang.

It is from an unknown number. I blink. Who could it be? I was hesitant at first, but I ended up answering it.

"Yes?" The other line is silent. It's as if I can hear a cricket anytime.

"Who is this?" I ask. Yet, no one answered.

"If you have nothing to say, then I'll drop the call. You're wasting my time." My fingertip almost touches the end button when a man speaks.

"Alexis." I think I forgot how to breathe the moment I heard his voice. Who is he? His voice is so deep and cold.

"Wh—who are you?" I managed to ask even in my cracking voice.

Yet no one answered again. Seconds passed, and the call ended. Who the freaking hell is that? His voice sent chills down my spine.

At first, some unknown man came here, paid my rent, and gave me a bulk of money. Now, I am intimidated and somehow scared of my unknown caller. What is happening? Are they playing games, and I am their pawn? Oh, come on.

I heard a knock. A faded knock, to be exact, as if that person doesn't want my neighbors to hear it. Hindi ako tumayo sa kinauupuan ko. Call me stupid, but somehow I felt uneasy about that knock.

Minutes have passed, and whoever is outside my door has gone. I waited for at least 5 minutes before I got the courage to watch the CCTV. How stupid of me! I forgot I installed a CCTV outside my door.

I spank my forehead because of my stupidity.

A man wearing a hoodie and a facemask can be seen approaching my door. I can't figure out who that is since his face is covered and his hair is quite long, covering almost his eyes. Uso pa pala emo ngayon? I thought it was long gone. Tsk.

He's carrying a box. It's big, and he has a hard time pulling it, as I can see. I wonder what's inside. A bomb? As far as I remember, I don't have someone who has some grudge against me, I think.

He knocked at my door slowly and then left. Okay, what is it this time? I'm convincing myself, okay? My neighbors might be intrigued if they see that box outside, so I have to check it. Nyeta naman kasi eh.

I gently opened the door and carefully pushed the box inside. This is harder than I think. Ano bang laman neto?

In a flash, I got my scissors and opened it. To my surprise, the box is full of groceries. TF! Well, it's half true.

I can stay inside my apartment for 1 year sa dami ng groceries na 'to.

"Whoever you are, thank you," I muttered.

"But I think it's better to say thank you in person," I added.

I look absentmindedly at the things inside the box. Most of them are my favorites. Whoever is behind all this? He or she knows me, and it creeped me out for real.

Meanwhile,

"Boss successful. Naihatid ko ng maayos yung box. Grabe ang bigat pala nun." Reklamong saad ng isang lalaki.

"Well then, good," The boss replied.

"Anong laman nun boss? Bakit ang bigat?" The guy asks.

"None of your business, Claude." Yes, the two of them have been best friends ever since they were young.

In his mind, he's wondering if his best friend has lost its mind already. But he's not in the right position to question the decision his friend made. He's there to support it. After all, maybe it's time for his friend to be happy again.
