Parth turned his feet and walked back which put Laila off guard. Laila's heart hammered against her ribs, His effect on her is that her anxiety would be off the charts. Parth's gaze lingered on the first room, the one she'd meticulously cleaned. His expression changed but it was gone before she could decipher it. Relief washed over her, when he started lingering around the rooms she had cleaned with all her might. He moved on to the next and kept on walking which in turn again increased her anxiety, his silence and her heart growing heavier with each passing room.
Finally he stopped his tracks, they reached the set of the rooms she'd rushed through. Her breath hitched in her throat, She prayed with all her might that he walks past these rooms and back to the neatly cleaned ones. But as if sensing her fear, Parth's gaze landed on the handle of the room, He slowly opened it and Laila felt like the knots tightening in her gut. He gazed through the whole room and walked towards the room, He swiped through the tell-tale smudge on the baseboard. His face hardened while the coldness remained a constant like always.
"This is your idea of clean?" he spat, his voice dripping with disgust as he dusts of his fingers. Laila flinched and the tears started stinging her eyes. She wanted to explain about the fever, the exhaustion but the words wouldn't come and also Parth didn't care about explanation, so it was very much pointless. He was only looking for an opportunity to hurt her. For what was a mystery she was yet to unveil. She wanted the earth to swallow her, She couldn't face the humiliation he was inflicting on her. She stood there silently while his face showed disgust.
He ran a hand over the dusty surface of the top shelf which left a visible trail. "Look at this! You call this cleaning? You're utterly useless, Laila." His words were like a sharp knife which never left a chance to hurt her, She looked at the ground. Tears welled up in her eyes which was blurring her vision. She hated crying in front of him and giving him the satisfaction of seeing her break but she couldn't hold on because his action were of the kind that the tears were compulsory. The dam broke and a sob escaped her lips.
"Crying won't change anything," he said rudely and gave her a look. "Get back to cleaning. I expect it to be spotless by the time I return." He turned on his heel and stormed out, leaving Laila alone in the room. She felt like the oxygen returned in the room and she could finally breathe. She sobbed openly which worsened her fever but she could breathe better than the time he was around. She calmed herself down and went to to take the cleaning equipment's. The next few hours were a blur of cleaning. Feverish and exhausted but still Laila pushed herself to the limit.
As the hours passed, Laila's fever worsened, her body growing weaker with each passing moment. But still she continued, refusing to give up. She couldn't let Parth see her weakness, couldn't let him break her spirit any further. She collapsed onto the floor, Tears streamed down her face as she lay there with a defeated feeling. She was done cleaning and she saw black spots appear before her eyes, She fell into a deep slumber before she could've thought about something else. The fever didn't let her get peace in the darkness as nightmares haunted it.
She fell flooded by water and woke up with a jerk, She felt memories of her wedding night flood in. She opened her eyes to find Parth standing above her with an emptied flower pot in his hand, The flowers were scattered all over the place. He dropped the pot dramatically and it divided into shards of itself, Laila flinched at the sound of the fall then gasped at his actions. Shards all over the place which means more things for her to clean. "You're so lazy, You forgot what you are supposed to do and you're comfortably sleeping here" taunted Parth
"Get me my damn coffee, lay out my office clothes and who do you think will make my breakfast, I need to reach my office on time and I'll not spare you, if I'm even a minute late because of you" Parth's haunting tone rang in her memory. She swiftly got up and stood away from the glass shards. "Umm- What do you want for breakfast?" asked Laila, "Toast works" said Parth and walked away. Laila felt a sense of relief when he left the room. She took a second for a breather.
She embraced herself for the things she's got to do now. She went to the washroom to freshen up and then later laid his clothes down. She rushed to the Kitchen to make his breakfast and thankfully she had to only make a simple breakfast so she was done earlier than she expected. She made herself a cup of coffee in an attempt to pamper herself amidst all the madness, a part wanted to run out of this place but something stopped her. She sipped her coffee lost in thoughts, she wanted to know why is this all happening to her.
She wanted to unveil the mystery, she was broken out of her thoughts when she heard Parth's footsteps. Her illness was only increasing but she made all the efforts to not do the same thing again. She slowly placed the coffee on the table, it was a non chaotic breakfast had in silence. "You've to clean the first floor today" said Parth, "yes" Laila replied to him. "What do you want for dinner" asked Laila and Parth paused to gather his thoughts, "chicken biriyani" said Parth. "Ok" Laila replied. Parth left and she felt her breath return to her.
Parth came back home and it was silent, no one to recieve him which made him suspicious. "Laila" he called out but no response. He continued calling her name but no response came in return. He went outside and asked his staff that did she go anywhere but all of them gave him a negative answer. He walked inside the mansion and started going door to door.
"Where the fuck are you Laila" he muttered angrily
