Girl, Strong

A girl of brown hair and eyes. A girl of a bright smile. A girl of cute ears. A girl of radiance and joy. A girl so perfect. But of course, we know perfect does not exist. A girl of insecurities. A girl of obsession. A girl of deprived. A girl who craves it all because she has missed out on the basics. A girl who could have it all, but struggles. She struggles not in victory, but in acceptance of herself. A girl who does not see how courageous, how brilliant, how stunning, how hard-working, how top-of-the-class she is. A girl that does not give herself a break. She works hard not because she’s working for herself. She works hard for the acceptance of others. She puts her faith that she will be okay in the idea that others will look at her and say “I’m proud.”

I myself am insanely proud of the woman I see in her. The fine young gentlelady of a woman that girl will become. I see her and her flaws and I say: a girl so broken, will not sway. As long as she is family, I will not let her falter. I’ll swoop her up, cheer her up, tell her I’m proud, and send her on her way.
