Dear Diary                                                                                                                                                 August 1st 2023

There is barely any space in this diary anymore, which I guess is a good thing that I bought another one. I bought a second diary because I'm going to Seoul today for a big exchange student program at Seoul National University, for the next 6 months. I'll be studying English Literature and Foreign Languages there. I speak English really well, as my mum put me into an English elementry and middle school, and so I learned English as a second language. I took up Japanese as a club in high school, but I ended up loving the language and began studying it in my free time. I just finished high school, and enrolled in Busan National University, but the term doesn't start until March 2024.

The exchange program could secure me a place at the uni. It is my dream university, but I never applied becuase my mum was apprehensive about me moving from Busan to Seoul. The coach ride just started, so I wanted to write quickly, but I think I am going to watch something on Netflix or listen to BTS. I'm not too sure. I guess I should mention that they are on a "haitus" and 2 members are already serving in the military. As I'm going to Seoul, I hope I'll be able to attend Yoongi's last concert on the tour. Anyway the lights are starting to go down now, as the ride is 3 ish hours, so I'll write again later.

We've gone into Seoul now, and I'm getting more excited as the time goes on. I keep looking out the window, seeing either trees or buildings, but that's about it. Everything looks so cool in Seoul to be honest. I've only been here a few times, with my brothers but never on my own. I read some of my book, 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. It's one of my favourite books, but to be honest I heavily enjoy poetry. Anyway, we get to SNU in about 45 minutes. I can't wait to set foot in SNU. I'm also so excited for tomorrow, our first day. People from all over the world will be here and I can't wait to meet so many people. The girl next to me is going to SNU too and her name is Jang Wonyoung, and she is seriously very pretty, you would think she wanted to become an idol or actress, but she has actually enrolled in the same uni as me to take English Literature and Cosmetology. I hope we are in the same class. She also is hoping to get a full time position in SNU. Not everyone on this bus is going, but luckily for us the bus stops off at SNU.

-----

We've arrived at SNU now, and its 7:43 pm. Walking through the uni itself was exhausting. To say the campus was huge would be an understatment. Security was tight, and we had to sign in, which took around 10 minutes to do. Wonyoung and I just found out that we will be roomates at the campus. Pretty much the campus had 13 living quarters, and could house 12,700 people. We stayed in rooms of four, and they were randomly selected, based your gender and I somehow ended up with Wonyoung. Both our surnames were different, mine being Kim and her's being Jang, which weren't even close to each other so I don't think they took surnames into consideration. Our roomates names are Hanni Pham, a sweet and bubbly girl who's Australian - Vietnamese and Huh Yunjin, a Korean-American.

We stayed at the end of the corridor, with two Korean boys and two Chinese boys living opposite us. Their names were Kim Mingyu, Jeon Wonwoo, Xu Minghao and Wen Junhui and they seemed so sweet. I don't know who was staying next to us to be honest.

In our small apartment, there were two bedrooms with two beds in each room, with desks at the end of them. Under the beds were huge amounts of storage for our clothes, and the windows were huge. When you entered the apartment, you were met with a small living room with a grey sofa and a TV, and a kitchen that was connected to the front room with an island. In the kitchen there was a fridge, freezer and lots of cuboards filled with pots, pans and pretty much everything we needed to stay here. There was also a bathroom, equipt with a toilet, sink and shower. A tannoy went off telling us that we needed to go the convience store on site and stock up in grocieres and other things we would need. So that's what me and the girls are going to do now, and then I think I'll get to know them before bed as I have a really busy day tomorrow.

Okay so I'm about to go to sleep but I wanted to talk about the girls, and the guys too.

So we can start with Hanni. She was born in Vietnam and lived there for 5 years but moved to Australia and lived there ever since. She's here because she got the highest Literature score her school had seen in years. She enjoys singing and dancing more than anything and said that she would love to be an idol. She is studying Literature, Music and Performing arts. I was speaking to her in English quite a bit, and with Yunjin too. Yunjin has bright orange hair, and she writes poems and songs. She said that she was here visiting family when her grandmother submitted her poem to the uni and that's how she ended up here, studying Psycology, Music and Literature as well. Wonyoung was a book nerd before she found interest in makeup, and that's why she's here.

While we were shopping we became more aquaited with the boys on our corridor, the ones who live opposite and the ones who live next to us. Xu Minghao moved from China to enroll in SNU to study Literature and Forgien Languages like me. He speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese, which I find so cool. Wen Junhui, or Jun for short, is doing Literature, Forgien Languages and Performing arts, as he was a child actor in China. Wonwoo said he is going to study Literature and Computer science, as he is a total computer nerd. He also streams on Twitch which is really cool in my opinion. Mingyu wants to take up Culinary skills as well as Literature, and with his girlfriend he wants to open up a book cafe, where you can read and eat at the same time. I find that totally adorable. I can't believe I have found so many Literature nerds!

The boys who live next to us are Lee Heeseung, Sim Jaehyun, Jay Park and Nishimura Niki. They are all here before they go to a dance training place, HYBE or something like that. Niki said that they all enrolled because they wanted to improve their song writing, so they are all doing Literature and Music. Niki caught my eye. In the shop, 20 minutes before I knew his name. He has been created so beautifully, with careful consideration almost. His smile is sweet, his scent intoxicating. I think I've caught feelings for him already. He helped me carry the bags of rice cakes back to our room, and we spoke about studio Ghibli for a while. After that he told me his name. Yet it felt like I had known him for years. What is happening to me?
