"Ugh," Ellie grumbled as she sat on top of her sleeping bag which was under a tree, "I've lost track on how many days we've been on the road!"
Joel looked at her from atop his sleeping bag, "You've been keeping track?"
The trio had spent the night in a small clearing in the forest, it was quite a nice place as it had some large rocks the group could use for cover if they ever needed to.
While Joel and Ellie were awake, Matt was not, still fast asleep.
"Yeah!" Ellie nodded as she was reading the diary she wrote in, "We've been travelling over a hundred days now! Which is crazy, but, I forgot to add some days in! Now I've lost track!"
Joel chuckled slightly, finding it adorable that she was getting so worked up over losing track of the days, even though she knew the rough number, something more than Joel knew.
"I'm surprised you kept track at all," Joel answered, "Honestly I lost track after like a week,"
Ellie snorted at that, "You lose track of everything," she giggled, writing something in her diary and putting it back in her bag, "When are we heading out anyhow?"
The sky had just begun to brighten up, allowing the forest to be visible once again, although there wasn't much to see other than trees and Rocks, "We'll head out after we've eaten," Joel told, opening up his worn bag before looking over to Matt, "And once he's awake,"
Ellie hummed, it wasn't often that Ellie was awake before Matt, "He hardly ever sleeps in," She commented as Joel pulled out some cans of food, throwing a can of corn to Ellie, "Ugh ...Corn ... Thanks,"
"Better than me and Matt," Joel shrugged, "We've got dog food,"
Ellie made a face, but didn't say anything as she used her mother's knife to unseal the can. As the two awake individuals begin eating the cans of food, Matt began stirring awake, "Oh, looks like he's finally waking up," She giggled, knowing that she won't let him live down being the last awake for a while.
Matt slowly opened his eyes and let out a groan, bringing one of his hands up to rub his eyes, "Wake up sleeping beauty," Joel teased with a light tone, "Got you a can of dog food here,"
"I think what's important is that I woke up before Matt," Ellie laughed to herself, feeling proud to have woken up before one of the men. At some point, it will be her mission to wake up before both of them.
Matt sat up carefully, using one hand to prop himself up and the other stayed on his head, "Oh shit," Ellie said with worry in her voice, "You do not look good right now,"
Joel looked at Matt, seeing all the colour had drained out of his face, "How're you ... feeling?" He asked, even though he could probably guess as much.
Matt took the hand away from his head and looked at the two, "Like actual shit," He croaked out, "I need some water ..."
Ellie was quick to pull out a bottle of water for Matt out of his bag, passing it over to him, "Here, you sound like shit as well ..."
Matt gratefully accepted the water bottle and was quick to start gulping down the water to relieve his sore throat, "Fuckin' hell," He gasped, "I feel like I just got hit by a train ..."
Joel hummed, this was going to affect their speed, "Want me to hold onto the dog food?" He questioned, somewhat jokingly, but serious at the same time.
Matt nodded, "I don't think I'll be able to keep it down if I'm honest ..." He rasped, "We should get moving anyway, come on,"
Matt slowly stood up, but it was a clear struggle for him to do so. "Matt ..." Ellie whispered, hating how she couldn't do anything to help Matt's suffering, "You need to take it easy!" She proclaimed, looking to Joel, "Joel?"
