I was singing along quietly to the radio,

Mom was driving and we were all alone,

I was looking out the window,

The fields passing us by,

Suddenly the radio was turned up,

I realized I was singing,

I ceased my efforts in song,

And the radio was off,

She turned the knob and looked over to me,

When I turn up the music please,

Finally someone wanted to hear me sing,

They didn't tell me to stop,

They didn't turn it all off,

They didn't drown me out,

They wanted me to sing along,

Instead of my silence.
