It wasn't her fault, that, things didn't go as planned,

Wasn't her fault when, shit hit the fan,

Wasn't her fault when her, dreams fell through,

No, it wasn't her fault when, she met you,

It all ended within a moment, life on hold just, for a moment she promised,

But that one little moment, was practically a lifetime, every smile, every dance every little bit of laughter,

That one college, they forgot about her, that one trip, it went on without her,

All her friends sighed, what about her?

A small smile, and just a look and she was grounded, too bad the tether was only you and her together,

She'd say, don't feel bad, I'm living just as much as, though everything I planned, had happened,

Sometimes we gotta hit the road and let everything happen,

One little trip, turned to two,

One vacation turned into a whole house move,

New Town, New friends, but there was something that ended, words were said,

Bills collected, barely living by, rent was way too high,

The ring in the closet was a bad move, the power was off and she was done,

More words were said and she never knew, the ring never moved and the power was back, after a while, but the contempt grew, unlike her smile,

More words were said and before you knew it she was gone,

What happened to, my home is with you,

What happened to, I love you?

She never did find out, about the ring, not while she was with you,

A few years pass, a family dinner, you came back, just one winter, a knock on the door and you opened it just to find her there,

More beautiful than ever before, her sharp words hidden, by her smile, wanna let the past go but you can't because you still love her,

"Why'd we have to grow up like that? Why'd we have to carry that guilt on our backs? Why couldn't we just be in love, and waited for eachother to grow up? Why couldn't I, just ask you the question? Why couldn't I, get rid of the ring?"

All these questions hang in the air ringing, when she takes a deep breath and, steps inside, her voice practically singing,

"We didn't have a choice hon, it was gonna happen. All that guilt, was just 'cause things weren't planned, I suppose that was the lesson we were gonna learn. If we had waited we wouldn't be who we are today, and I think we have grown enough to say that we're okay. That little question, I knew you'd ask, we were too young and I could only lash out at you... I'm sorry things ended up this way but I'm very, proud to say that we're adults now, and the people we are today are people our young selves needed to become..."

"I'm sorry we were young,"

"I'm sorry we didn't stand a chance,"

"We just had to grow up and the timing wasn't right for us,"

"I still love you, but we really need to move on, come with me and we'll go, take the ring and let the past go...."

You went together and you both let it all go...

Maybe someday you'll be happy but today you'll let it show that you are mourning a future that just wasn't in the cards for you, and that's okay,

Remember that it wasn't your fault, that, things didn't go as planned,

And it wasn't your fault when, shit hit the fan,

It wasn't your fault when, all the dreams you both had fell through,

No, it wasn't anyone's fault when, she met you, and you met her, and you both fell in love,

It was just the wrong time, and it wasn't meant to be, you both were kids and blind to the things the world makes you see.
