AMARA PARISH had to escape the haunted house her father called home. Faded blood stains adorned the walls, and shards of broken vases were hidden in secret drawers. This place was not Mara's home, but rather one of pride and anger, cruelty and judgment.
Bruised and broken, she fled her demons and left the mansion in Hancock Park. Everything was planned out. It would appear to be a kidnapping, timed conveniently with the recent release of a criminal her father had found guilty. Her friends would corroborate the lies, and her teacher would attest to how out of character running away would be.
It seemed perfect, foolproof. Mara believed that this could actually work out. After years of tossing and turning in bed, trying to figure out a way to escape this place, she had finally done it.
Well... at least until TIM BRADFORD crushed every previous seedling of hope that began to blossom in her heart. The police officer sensed something amiss in Mara's story, refusing to rest until he uncovered the truth about the girl with hidden bruises and enigmatic lies.
