Spencer Cassadine washed up on shore after falling off the cruise ship he and Trina Robinson were vacationing on when Esme Prince came out of hiding and tried to stab him and Trina with a syringe.

He and Esme ended up in the ocean after Spencer intervened in Esme coming after Trina.
As Spencer lay on the shore, Esme was about to inject Spencer when someone came up from behind her and injected Esme with the syringe and Esme fell to the ground.
Emma Scorpio-Drake checked Spencer's pulse which aroused him from his unconsciousness.
"Are you okay?" Emma asked Spencer.
"Uh, where am I?" Spencer asked groggily.

"You're in Paris?" Emma told him.
"Paris?" Spencer asked.
"What happened to you?"
"I don't remember?" Spencer replied.
"What's the last thing you remember?" Emma asked.
"I was vacationing with my girlfriend. Then it all went black." Spencer said.
"Do you remember your name?"
"No, I don't."
"But you do remember you were vacationing with your girlfriend? Do you remember her name?"
"No, I don't remember her either?"
"Okay, let's get you to safety. Can you walk?"
"I think so," Spencer said.
Emma helped Spencer to her car as she drove him to her dorm at the university. There, she helped him to her bed where he fell asleep.
"Poor guy, you look like you've been through hell?"
Emma sat in her chair and closed her eyes as Spencer drifted asleep.
