Beginnings can be tricky, both in life and in creative writing. It is opening a new chapter of a person's life, a fresh start or a new chance given to a person after, usually, an ordeal. New beginnings happen everyday, with the breaking of dawn. It's in the breathing in and breathing out of oxygen we do every moment. It's the little things and the big, significant things like moving to new places, or embarking on a personal change. So, writing about new beginnings should not feel overwhelming.

If it does, then this guide is for you.

I Connect with your experience:

Whether you are writing about a fictional character, or telling the story of your own journey, you need to take out time to reflect on your experiences. What kind of emotions do you feel in that moment? What did you feel in the initial moment? Or what do you think your character would feel? Writing is about connection, and the better you connect with your own emotions, the more authentic your creative writing will feel. It will create a deeper level of understanding of the beginning you are trying to bring to life with words.

II Establish a Strong Foundation / Theme:

There are a variety of ways new beginnings can occur. It could be a new job, a new place, or even a new baby. This is why you have to set the central theme, not just for you to have a guide on what kind of story--fiction or nonfiction--you want to tell, but so you do not confuse your audience. It will also help you with ensuring your writing is coherent, and the thoughts are well organized, or the plot is solid.

III Be Multi-Dimensional:

The focal point of a creative piece is usually about a character (or more). This means that there has to be relatable parts to who or what it is about. New beginnings do not just come with free passes, there are always challenges foreign to the character that they have to overcome. So, as you write, remember to show the vulnerability, the fears, the hopes. Make it dynamic, explore the complexity of the new chance.

IV Show the Conflict and Resolutions:

In the prior point, I mention that challenges always happen in new beginnings, and in every story, there is always the climax--the highest point of tension that every character has to face in the story. This is where you show the obstacles, that your character(s) must/had to endure on their journey to new beginning. This could be internal struggles, such as self-doubt, or external conflicts, such as societal expectations. Ultimately, resolution should offer a sense of growth and transformation for your characters.

V Embrace Moments of Reflection:

It is essential to see the acceptance of this new journey, the new chance or beginning your central characters have gotten. Explore the inner thoughts, or the unspoken parts of what you or your characters went through and decided. Showing understanding helps the readers connect with the theme, relate more and even see themselves in the shoes of the character--thus being able to anticipate personal new beginnings for themselves too. Also, ensure to end with a note of positivity and hope. Emphasize the potential for growth and new opportunities that come with new beginnings. Leave readers with a sense of optimism and anticipation for what lies ahead.

VI Revise:

Every writing requires you to take time to edit and refine in order to bring out the best part of your story. Once you've completed your first draft, take the time to revise and refine your writing. Pay attention to pacing, clarity, and coherence. Seek feedback from trusted peers or mentors to gain fresh insights and perspectives.

VII Share Your Story:

The next thing for you to do is to share your story. Embrace all of the emotions and vulnerability (if it is a personal story) as you do so, because you have taken a bold step in sharing with the world something with a very beautiful theme. Your story is sure to inspire one person, and give strength to those who would embark on their own journey too.

New beginnings come with lots of challenges, but the beauty about it is that it brings growth, it shows the need for change and how accepting can lead to a better, and more fulfilling life--even though you do not see it at the beginning. But you must be able to draw from your emotions (or that of your character) to be able to write it well enough to leave a lasting impression. So, don't be afraid to do so, start writing today, you have the world to inspire.
