"I'm not sure about this," I declared, stopping my hand over the doorknob, with no intention of opening it.
"Come on, (y/n), there's nothing to worry about," Mitsuri sang behind me, placing her hands on my shoulders.
"Nothing to worry about?" I let go of the doorknob and turned towards her. Like me, she wore a towel covering her naked body from the collarbone to her thighs. "Why on earth are the hot springs mixed? They've always been separated by gender."
I had found out a mere five minutes ago that the hot springs were shared between both genders. Now I felt uncomfortable wearing just a white towel covering my body, and I had no intention of leaving the changing room where Mitsuri and I had gotten ready.
"These hot springs are exclusive to demon slayers and are almost always empty," she said, intending to calm me.
"Almost always?" I became even more alarmed.
"When I usually come, there are only two or three people," she explained, counting on her fingers.
"Two or three!?" No way was I going out there.
"Well, after a while, more people always come. I don't know why, though." Mitsuri put her index finger to her chin, thoughtful.
"I know why," I muttered, thinking of all the perverts who had tried to see Mitsuri naked upon learning she was in the hot springs. I wondered what would happen to those demon slayers if I tattled to Iguro. Suddenly, a malicious smile appeared on my face.
"But don't worry, they are usually very nice," Mitsuri declared, with a sweet smile.
"Nice or sleazy?" I narrowed my eyes.
"Come on, (y/n), we're already here, you can't back out. Besides, it will be very relaxing and fun."
"Fun will be drowning all the perverts."
"Maybe we'll get lucky and no one will be there."
"No way I'm going out like this," I sentenced, crossing my arms.
Minutes later, Mitsuri and I walked together towards the hot springs along the cobblestone path. The scent of pine wood filled my nostrils while Mitsuri pulled me along with her hand entwined with mine, and the other holding my towel to make sure it didn't fall. I was scanning our surroundings to ensure no one was watching us, while Mitsuri seemed so happy, innocent, and carefree.
Of course she is carefree, she hadn't eavesdropped on conversations of demon slayers talking about the girls, about who they'd want to sleep with and who was the hottest of all. Just remembering it made me nauseous. Luckily, that day Iguro and Shinazugawa had given those guys a good lesson, but I'm sure they weren't the only ones talking about that topic.
As Mitsuri had said, there was practically no one at the hot springs. We only crossed paths with one demon slayer who greeted us kindly while walking in the opposite direction, towards the exit of the baths.
What could have been an innocent encounter turned awkward when I noticed his eyes brazenly roving over us from head to toe. Instinctively, I made sure our towels were tightly wrapped around our bodies. As he passed us, I turned around to confirm my suspicions, and sure enough, he was still looking. Only when he realized I had caught him did he avert his gaze and hurry towards the exit, leaving behind an air of discomfort.
A growing rage started to take over my hands, and I felt the urge to go after him and set a few things straight. The only thing that stopped me was Mitsuri's hand joined with mine, pulling me along.
"Mitsuri, that guy..." I began to say, but she was no longer listening because we were only a few meters away from the hot pool.
"It looks like there's no one here!" she exclaimed excitedly, pulling me along. "Come on, (y/n), let's take advantage before other demon slayers arrive."
