Kita paused, then looked at me with a shy but sincere expression. "When you backed him up like that..." He hesitated, a faint flush rising to his cheeks. "It felt like maybe... you weren't on my side. I know it's childish, but... that's how it felt."
The hint of vulnerability in his voice made my heart skip. Kita, usually so composed, was stumbling over his words, as if he didn't quite know how to express what he was feeling. His gaze dropped to the ground, clearly not used to opening up like this.
