Amelia's POV
Holy sh*t
I don't know what I was expecting when I entered Hawthorne House, but it definitely wasn't Grayson Hawthorne. Isn't he supposed to be working in the Hannah same way Backward as Forward Foundation or the Hawthorne Foundation ... .or...
"To what do I owe the pleasure Ms......." He spoke. It hit me just then...He doesn't remember, he must have been so drunk that he didn't remember. Why is this a big deal? it's wonderful that he doesn't remember, otherwise it would be complicated if he started liking me again.
"Ambrose. I quite remember requesting to speak with Ms. Grambs though." I said my voice sharp discreetly indicating that I did not want to be within his presence.
"Anything you want to say to Ms. Grambs, you can say to me," he said, not moving his steel Gray eyes an inch.
The journalist in me sparked. "Forgive my journalist tendencies but is there something that the world doesn't know about Ms. Grambs? Considering your words I think there is more than friendship between the two of you. You live in the same house after all."
"Let me ask you something, Ms. Ambrose. Do you own a pet?" he asked, his jaw clenching and unclenching.
"I own a dog"
"Is something going on between the two of you? You live in the same house after all." He replied smoothly, taking a step forward.
"Are you implying that you consider Ms. Grambs as a Dog that guards your only way to the money???" I said advancing another step.
"I never mentioned that. What kind of-"
"Gray?" I whipped my head around to see the one and only Avery Kylie Grambs as she made her way down the stairs. She was dressed in black pants, a white shirt and a gray blazer to top it off with a professional edge. She looked in between the foot distance between me and Grayson Hawthorne and I saw the hint of a smirk playing at her mouth.
"And who are you, miss?" She asked, holding out her hand, completely ignoring what she had just witnessed between me and Grayson Hawthorne.
"Good Afternoon Ms. Grambs. I am Amelia Ambrose, a student at Harvard and an intern working for the Thomson Reuters Corporation. It would be my pleasure if I could interview you. I thought it would give you good attention from the media considering we are around the same age."
"And what's in it for you? Considering journalists are blood-sucking leeches" said Grayson Hawthorne interrupting my conversation.
"Be careful what you say Mr. Hawthorne. I'm a journalist after all. I heard Hawthorne's can ruin lives but you certainly can't ruin mine." I shot my comeback straight at him. It seemed to sting a bit but he quickly masked it with one of his cold glares.
"Okay.........I would love to be interviewed by you, Amelia. You seem like an amazing person as well. My Media consultant will call you and we'll give you a date. But I will not be free for a week."
"Thank you Ms. Grambs it means a lot."
"Please call me Avery, we are the same age," she said, giving me a warm smile.
"I'll take my leave then," I said as I walked towards the doors. I was about to step onto the stairs when I turned around and wanted to say something sure to receive a reaction from Grayson Hawthorne's face.
"Oh Avery, one more thing. Grayson Hawthorne called you a dog"
Avery's POV
"What in the name of Hawthorne, was that?" I asked looking towards Grayson faking anger.
"I swear to you, Avery. It's not what it sounds like." he said, stopping himself from smiling.
"Oh yeah Gray, then care to explain what I just heard?" I asked, cracking up. We both started laughing for a minute before catching our breath again.
"Avery, do you think you can trust her?" He asked me seriously, again.
"I do, I don't know how to explain it, but I feel comfortable around her" I said. It wasn't a secret that I didn't trust people easily. But there was something about Amelia that just had me smiling and warm. Ok, now I sound Crazy...
"And besides, didn't you say you trust me more than yourself?" I asked.
"Don't you have a plane to catch?" He asked, completely ignoring my question.
"Ya just making sure you will take care of the foundation while I'm gone?" I said while my mind was already slipping into the weekend Getaway with Jameson tonight.
"You have my word," He said smiling.
