LET'S TALK ABOUT FOOD, BABY!

One thing I definitely talk about a lot in my stories is food. To be fair, the food chat is mostly cheese related, but I do address other culinary items too, and I think I often make people hungry. If you've ever broken a diet because of me, I'm sorry. (But also, I'm not really sorry!)

We have a lot of amazing food here in Scotland, though - particularly the fish and seafood, although I have to confess I don't really eat a lot of that (although our salmon is pretty damn elite!)

So, I thought I'd take the opportunity to go through some of our fabulous dishes. You are welcome!


CULLEN SKINK

I know I literally just said I don't eat much fish, but I make an exception for Cullen skink. It's a creamy thick soup with fish and potatoes (probably a lot like a chowder) and is typically served as a starter with some bread and butter. It's actually something I've only started eating in the past few years, and I'm really quite annoyed at all the opportunities I missed to eat it during the rest of my life.

HAGGIS

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Scotland's national dish. I go through phases where I like it, and then I go right off it again. It's typically served with neeps (turnip, blurgh!) and tatties, which I always find a bit much, but I like how inventive some restaurants can get with the presentation of it, often serving it in a cute little pile! Lots of places also offer it in the form of fritters, croquettes, or even pakora, and one restaurant used to do haggis nachos, which were to die for! I still sometimes longingly think about those.
