Azriel didn't know what he was doing, what he was thinking, letting himself get so close to her, like he didn't know what temptations he'd face. He knew the risks and yet, he just couldn't stop himself. He needed to be near her, to touch her, to feel her underneath his palm and know that this was real. He needed her in his arms just like he needed air in his lungs, like he needed blood coursing through his veins. She just felt so good against him, the way her hand tentatively brushed against his own as it rested on her thigh. The way she seemed to find her confidence and joined their hands together, their fingers interlocking.

He felt his breath shudder as her hand gently squeezed his, his blood turned cold. But not in that uncomfortable way it did when he was scared, when he awoke alone with nobody to comfort him from his nightmares. It felt soothing like putting ice on a bruise after a long day of training, like feeling the first chill of a winter breeze after a long summer. He shook slightly, his feelings almost overwhelming, almost too much for even him to handle. He finally found the courage to look up at Elain, only to find her already staring at him. His dark eyes met hers, and the world suddenly seemed to fall into place, his soul finally felt at peace. He felt home in her eyes, in the feeling of her hand on his own. He lifted her hand to his lips, maintaining eye contact as he kissed her hand. His lips lingered for a moment before he pressed them to her wrist, up her arm. He pressed a kiss to her shoulder. He kissed his way up to her jaw.

She was so close he could feel her breath on his face, warming his already hot cheeks that felt like they were set aflame by the blush that rested on them. He gently cupped her jaw in his hand, his thumb caressing her cheek as they remained that way for a while, neither bold enough to make the first move or pull away.

Elain felt like she was barely breathing, her heart was beating faster than it ever had before. He was so close, too close. She felt her self restraint slipping as her whole body trembled. She was a mated female. She shouldn't even be thinking of another male in this way, let alone letting him so close, but Azriel was intoxicating. Her head felt fuzzy and her judgement weak. Azriel had always had that effect on her. That's why she had to stay away. Because of the almost sick feeling in her stomach, the feeling of drowning when she was around him, like she couldn't breathe without him around.

Elain felt like the world around them was disappearing, leaving nothing but the two of them and the way they made each other feel, the longing to feel his lips on her. Her voice came out as a quiet whimper, a verbal hint of only a miniscule amount of the longing and desire she felt for Azriel.

"Please..."

She saw something change in Azriel's gaze when he heard that word and the space between them was suddenly only a concept in recent memory as his lips collided with her own with a sense of desperation that made Elain release a small sob of relief. It all felt so right, the way he felt against her, the taste of him. It felt like there were bubbles rising through her stomach into her chest, beating at her ribcage.

He gently lowered his lips to her neck, kissing at the sensitive skin of her throat, her hand resting on her collar to keep her still as she began to squirm from the sensations she was feeling. Her breath escaped her in soft pants as he experimentally nipped at her neck. Elain almost wanted her to claim her, for her to claim him in kind, to let any other female who wanted him to see that he belonged to her. Her fingers gently threaded through his hair, tugging him away from her neck, the movement sending a sharp yet satisfying pain in his scalp, causing him to groan quietly. The sound sent a shiver down her spine.

She pulled him back in to kiss her, feeling him carefully lay her down on the couch, he gently pushed the skirt of her dress up her thighs so he could kneel between her legs. He held her cheek in his hand as the kiss between them deepened. Elain felt warm, almost too warm, like the feeling of sitting beside a fire on a day that was already too warm.

She gazed up at Azriel as he pulled away from her, trying to catch his breath as he continued to stare down at her, as if in awe of her. Elain couldn't help but giggle as she watched Azriel's cheeks turn a subtle shade of pink, her own cheeks blushing when he gave her that soft, almost boyish smile. She felt the need to repeat her earlier words, given how resonant they were as they ran through her head.

"I missed you."

And those were her final words before Azriel's lips crashed against hers again, his own way of expressing how much he had missed her too. Even despite everything, Elain couldn't help the sinking feeling in her stomach. She knew this would have consequences, but surely one time wouldn't hurt anyone. It was only going to be once...
