I woke up this morning with the sudden urge to go for a long walk. While the Southern home cooking was nothing short of amazing, I wasn't quite used to eating such large portions and it was starting to take a toll on how I viewed myself.
Being a model for the majority of my teenage years I had gotten used to not eating much. Rigorous workouts had given me the body needed to get the best modeling jobs.
While I don't regret the tough years put into modeling, it has taken a toll on my view of food and body image.
I hate it when people say skinny people can't have food problems because it's the furthest thing from the truth. I almost quit modeling years ago because I wasn't mature enough to handle the strict lifestyle.
While being in Alabama it's been hard to resist the countless home-cooked meals and sweets Grandma insists on making every night after dinner.
I haven't gained any weight but I am so used to viewing my body in a condescending way.
I roll out of bed and walk towards my dresser picking out a Lululemon tank top and shorts. I am glad that I brought my extensive workout clothes collection with me because it has come in handy on these hot summer days.
Heat really was on another level in the South.
I got dressed before slipping on my Hokas and brushing my teeth. I fixed my hair into a loose French braid down my back.
Walking downstairs it was still quiet so I figured both of my grandparents were still asleep.
I grabbed a protein bar from the pantry and I began to eat it as I quietly closed the front door.
Grandpa's golden retriever, Roxy, was asleep on the porch steps and paid me no mind as I stepped over her to start my walk.
I started my Garmin watch just to keep up with how far I'd be going. Call it a habit to track my burned calories, but I'm slowly trying to care less.
Making my way down the long driveway I reveled in the calming sounds around me. Roosters were crowing from surrounding farms, and the birds were chirping as the sun had risen.
It was calming. Much calmer than the busy city hustle of New York.
I turned out of the driveway finally making it to the main road and started walking down the sidewalk towards town.
I passed a couple of different houses, couples drinking their coffee on the front porch. I exchanged waves and good mornings with all of them.
However, when I made it closer to town I noticed another figure turning out of a driveway. Recognizing the hair and undeniably attractive figure, I realized it was Weston turning out of his family's ranch.
He had athletic shorts on with a tighter compression shirt that showed off his strong arms and chest. He stood stopped looking down at his phone probably trying to turn on his music or something.
I guess he had heard my footsteps approaching on the sidewalk because he looked up meeting my gaze with a surprised look.
I caught up to him with a small smile resting on my face.
"Good morning," I greet him, "funny seeing you out here."
He lets out a soft chuckle shaking his head and it's like music to my ears.
