The next time Stiles rose out of sleep was the next day, in the afternoon, when the pain started to become a bit too much for him to sleep through. He took a deep breath and rubbed his eyes as he came to and looked to the side, smiling a little when he saw Derek. "Hey." He said softly.
"Hey." Derek spoke equally softly and set his phone down. Unbeknownst to Derek, his mother had gotten him a new phone and delivered it during the day so he had been busy setting it up again while Stiles rested. "You have some visitors."
Stiles looked around the room and saw his friends sitting in various chairs. "How long have you guys been here?" He stifled a yawn.
"About an hour. Our parents finally let us come see you." Lydia answered. "How are you feeling?"
"Like shit." Stiles sighed. "Pain woke me up." The rest of the group was silent.
Derek was the first to speak. "Want me to get the nurse?"
Stiles nodded. "Please." He winced a little as he tried to move just a little to get some sort of relief. Derek got up and disappeared out the door.
"I'm sorry." Allison was the first to speak up. Everyone turned their heads to her.
"What are you sorry for?" Jackson frowned.
"It was my aunt that did this." She said quietly, avoiding eye contact.
"It's not like you asked her to trap us in the school." Jackson responded. "It wasn't your fault."
"Jackson's right, Alli." Lydia said softly. "You just wanted to enjoy Mischief Night. She was the one who decided to try and kill innocent teenagers."
Allison sniffled. "I just......... my family are hunters and one of them tried to kill you guys when you've done nothing wrong."
"That's because Kate got her sense of honour messed up." Scott said softly. "She lost her way, lost sight of what your code is."
"It's a stupid code anyway." Allison sighed angrily, wiping her eyes. "'We hunt those who hunt us'. None of you have tried to hunt Kate."
"That's because she's a psycho." Derek said, entering the room with Melissa who promptly shut the door. "I'm sorry, Allison, but there's no saving her. She will always try to kill any supernatural creature to rid the world of them. Even when they're innocent." He resumed his seat beside Stiles.
Melissa sighed. "Derek's right. People like her............ their morals get incredibly twisted and they usually don't come back." She walked over to Stiles. "How's the pain?"
"Rising but at the moment, seven." Stiles said, looking up at her.
"Okay." Melissa said gently. "You're due for an IV replacement anyway." She swapped the bags and reattached a new one. "Hopefully it'll kick in soon. Anything else?" She asked softly.
"Ice cream?" Stiles asked hopefully.
Melissa chuckled. "I'll be right back." She said softly and left the room.
Stiles frowned when his felt a hand grip his and looked down to see his and Derek's joined hands with the other siphoning off some of the pain. He smiled thankfully at his boyfriend before he looked at Allison. "It wasn't your fault."
"She shot you." Allison whispered.
"Of her own free will. She tried to shoot you two and in the end, as Talia knocked her to the ground, the bullet just happened to hit me. You didn't pull the trigger. You weren't even holding the gun. It wasn't you fault."
Allison sniffled again and nodded. "Thank you."
"You don't need to thank us, Allison. None of this was your fault. And you're our friend, of course we wouldn't judge or blame you."
Allison nodded. Just at that time, Melissa returned with a cart holding six ice cream cups. "I figured you all might want one." She said softly. There was a chorus of thank yous as the teens grabbed a cup, Derek handing Stiles one, and they all settled in the room, enjoying the quiet.
"Do you guys know what happened to our phones?" Stiles asked.
"Mine got water damage." Scott sighed.
"Same with mine." Jackson tsked annoyingly.
"Ours were okay. We got yours, too. It's on the table beside you." Lydia said, looking between her and Allison.
Stiles looked over after he finished his ice cream and carefully managed to lift an arm to grab it, slowly wincing in pain. "Well, at least it managed to survive like me." He huffed.
A couple of chuckles sounded. "Hey, we all made it." Jackson grinned.
Stiles smiled. "Yeah, we did." He said softly. "What do you think our parents are gonna do?"
"I don't know. I heard mine talking about therapy." Lydia sighed. "Who knows, maybe they'll put us all in group therapy."
"Wouldn't that be something." Scott sighed softly.
"Enough about that." Lydia's expression turned to a smug smile. "Are we going to talk about it?"
"Talk about what?" Scott frowned.
"Derek and Stiles." She grinned.
Scott's head whipped towards the two. "Are you two dating?" His eyes darted between them.
"Well, we haven't really specified it." Stiles said, looking at Derek before looking back at the group.
"Did you guys at least agree to do something?" Jackson asked.
"I did say if we got out alive, Derek could take me on a date." Stiles supplied. "I don't know if that means we're dating or not."
"Well, I'd like to think so." Derek watched Stiles.
"You want it to be official?" Stiles asked, looking at him a little hopefully.
"If you're okay with that."
"Of course I'm okay with that."
"Good." Derek leaned over and kissed his forehead and let go of Stiles' hand after he had taken quite a bit of pain. "There's your answer." He looked to the rest of the group.
"You are a smooth fucker, Derek." Jackson chuckled.
"Congrats, you two." Scott smiled. "At least something good came out of this."
"Two things." Stiles hummed. "My relationship with Derek and I feel like we've gotten closer as a friend group and a pack."
The rest looked amongst themselves. Ordinarily, Lydia and Jackson wouldn't have come to visit someone like Stiles, let alone Stiles himself, but here they were. Something had definitely changed, especially when they had all rallied together to protect each other from Kate. They were definitely friends now. And they were definitely pack.
"You're right." Jackson said softly. "I'm glad our dynamics have changed."
Derek smiled. "So am I." He said softly.
Stiles suddenly yawned and stretched as much as his injury would let him without it hurting. "I have a feeling I'm going to be sleeping a lot." He mumbled. The pain meds had kicked in now and were starting to pull him back into sleep.
"Get some sleep." Scott said. "We'll be here as long as we can."
Stiles nodded and easily headed off to sleep, comforted that his friends were still here.
