Darling, don't be afraid,
I have loved you for a thousand years
I love you for a thousand moreAppalled. Anger. Livid.
These were the only words that described me and my frustration.
I had mentioned my choices to my parents, which were to not get married and settle down because I didn't want any of those things for myself. Anymore.
I don't want to settle down with someone who can find love and all that romantic notion with someone else, cause I sure as hell won't give any.
It's no longer who I am.
I had made my peace with staying alone forever and drowning myself in work. But my parents effed up my peace.
They went behind my back to scout out girls and then arranged a meeting with the girl's family when they knew I wouldn't go.
I thought I had been crystal clear last night, especially after my father tricked me into dinner to reveal the disguised 'meeting' under the pretense of celebration. My foot.
I should have known, he is my father, and I have learned all my tricks from him, so he's the master of it all. And the call he made was a trick.
I should have known.
It seemed to me that my mother would understand me above all, but instead, what I see is her preparing in full swing to go meet the girl's family.
"What's going on here, Maa?" I asked her when she was seated on the couch speaking to Prakash, our house help.
I knew the answer but I was hoping to hear otherwise.
"Good morning, beta," she greeted, clearly choosing to ignore my question.
I ascended the stairs, while she dismissed Prakash to continue his work.
"Maa, apne mere sawal ka jawab nhi diya?" I asked. "Kyun do jawab, jab tujhe pata hai, yeh kya ho raha hai," she retorted.
