I'm muzzled because I bite,

I snap at the lies in the night,

At shadows that creep with stealth,

At whispers that threaten my health.

The cage, they say, is for me,

To keep the wildness contained,

To silence the howl in my veins,

To subdue what they can't see.

The leash is tight on my throat,

To hold me when I might run,

To drag me back from the sun,

To make me a cautious note.

But they don't know what I know,

The chains are just to bind,

The locks are just to blind,

The keys are for those who grow.

My teeth are sharp and bright,

I grind them on cold iron,

To break free of this confine,

To gnaw through the quiet night.

I hunger for the taste of air,

For the wildness that's denied,

For the freedom that's confined,

For the paths that lead elsewhere.

I dream of running unbound,

Of racing across the plains,

Of feeling the wind's refrain,

Of chasing the sky's surround.

I'm muzzled because I bite,

But the cage won't hold me long,

My spirit is fierce and strong,

I'll break through with all my might.
