Can You Read My Mind

It had been some time since I'd traveled with someone else. It'd been even longer since I traveled with Naruto. I remember how we used to annoy each other during missions when we were kids, not knowing what our prolonged glances at each other meant. Do I know what it means now?

"It's hot." I said, sweat forming on my brow as I looked at Naruto, who seemed to agree with me. We were sitting outside our inn room, waiting to be called back by our mysterious client. Naruto still hadn't told me of the details. It was on purpose, of course, and I was sure it was to make sure I didn't leave if I decided it too boring or inane.

"Yeah. Pretty though, right?" He softly chuckled his sweet chuckle, his eyes squinting as they looked up towards the sky. The sky—I'm convinced it was made for him. I nodded.

His intentions were still unclear to me. There was a chance that he brought me out here for no reason at all and the mission was a complete ruse so that we could be alone. There was a slim, slim chance that there was actual work to be done. Perhaps both could be true. I just wasn't sure.

I sighed and walked back inside, sitting by the kotatsu table. The blue yukata I was wearing was nice, and I would rather not soak it with my sweat. As to why I have a yukata on—I'm not sure. Naruto insisted. This felt less like a mission and more like a weekend away. He donned one as well. It was orange. Of course it was orange.

"I'm sure they'll call us back soon. Just relaax~" Naruto slid the door closed and sat near the kotatsu table where I was. I saw his eyes, his gaze hungry and very obviously wanting. I shut my eyes and pretended not to notice. Maybe he wasn't doing it on purpose. He had contained himself throughout our travel. It surprised me, honestly. Made me believe that this could be actual business. Though, since we're in a private room, he'll probably...

What will I do if he does?

I met his gaze. He was slowly leaning forward, not saying a word. Those eyes told me everything, though. It felt as if I could read his mind. Could he read mine, as well? What do my eyes tell him?

"Can I?" He simply asked, his face bright, his smile shining. The Gods have taken away my ability to ever deny him.

I nodded. At this point I feel more comfortable. I lean in now, I close my eyes before his lips meet mine, even. I melt into him now.

His lips softly pressed against mine, his hand gently resting on my waist, the other planted itself on the ground as he led me to the floor. I wrapped my arm around his neck, pulling him closer to me.

Unusually, he didn't try to amplify the passion of our kiss. Instead, he continued to give me soft kisses, seemingly taking time and care into each one he gave. It's as if he was content with just this, content with not going further. Content with just kissing me as softly as he could.

This felt different. It felt like more than lust, than sex.

Naruto stopped our kiss and raised his head, his eyes meeting mine. The smile he wore was so sweet when he looked at me. The hand that was on my waist moved up to my cheek, gently caressing it. Without thought, I leaned into his hand before putting my own on top of it.

No, this wasn't lust. It was something worse.

"Am I the only one that gets to see you like this?" He asked with his smile still on. I rolled my eyes.

Was this worse?

"I could ask you the same." I quickly said back. I wonder if he looks at Hinata this same way. There was a part of me that hoped it wasn't true. A big part of me. All of me.

He simply chuckled, leaning down again and planting a gentle kiss on my forehead. I put my hand on his chest. After a moment, I noticed I could feel a subtle pulse. It was fast. His heart was beating fast.
