Snorting and panting, the two men tumbled down the stairs of the restaurant. The weight of Bi Han's body made it sound as if the wood would splinter at any moment. Or break bones.

A shiver ran through her body at the thought. Fractures hurt and were a long-standing obstacle to good training. As a born Necromancer, your bones healed faster than those of normal humans. But that didn't make it any less unpleasant.

Paralysed, the man in the hat stopped at the stairs, checking whether his friend needed help, when suddenly Kuai Liang's rope wrapped itself around his ankle and pulled his support away. Staggering, he fought back, grunting in annoyance.

"Get over here!", Kuai Liang's voice echoed under his mask as if it were not that of a man but of a monster.

Gripped by the force of his opponent, the man tumbled to the floor, sliding over carpet and wood while chairs toppled and porcelain shattered.

Just as he was about to slip into the ninja's reach, however, he quickly jumped back to his feet, lunged and kicked him directly in the face.

Impressed, your eyebrows rose as Scorpion rolled to the side and shook his head dazedly. Snorting, he took a few steps back.

"A chosen of Liu Kang.", you said to yourself. "Indeed."

Spreading his arms, the man drove Lin Kuei further towards the wall.

"Want more?", he asked with his chin raised defiantly. "I have plenty."

"You should have fled when you could.", warned Kuai Liang, pulling out his hook. "Prepare to regret ever crossing the Lin Kuei."

An empty threat, because this fight already had a predetermined outcome. Scorpion, number three of the clan, would allow himself to be defeated as long as he recognised the abilities of the chosen one as worthy.

Tensely, the man moved into position. A smile shimmered on his lips. He was confident after his win against Tomas. And indeed, as reckless as it was, he made the first move.

With a clenched fist, he aimed at Kuai Liang's head. Your fingers clenched into fists as he allowed him to land a hit. He flinched briefly, but then let the blade dance between his fingers and chopped at the arm several times. His attacks were fended off with a kick.

You noticed that the man in the straw hat had almost no cover at all. He fought openly and roughly, more like a street fighter than a master of martial arts. His punches were hard, but if Kuai Liang didn't allow it, he could hardly hit.

The ninja nimbly dodged a kick, spun round and gave the man a well-aimed blow between the shoulder blades. Panting, he staggered forwards, almost tripping over his own feet.

Sweat glistened on his forehead. So he wasn't as promising as first thought. Nevertheless, he didn't let it get him down and caught his balance.

He whirled round with full force and kicked his opponent in the chest. Kuai Liang fell back, a feigned movement, for he would never have allowed himself to be thrown off balance.

With a dull sound he hit the wooden floor. Before he could get to his feet again, he was hit by a second kick, decided to stay put.

So the second Lin Kuei brother was also convinced of the chosen one. Exhaling deeply, the man with the hat came to rest.

"It is you who will regret crossing me.", he returned confidently.

A sigh slipped from your lips. He was slowly becoming a little exhausting. Self-confidence or not, he had a simple mind. That would mean one could easily influence him. Especially if they buttered him up a bit.

Not a good quality for a champion. Especially when Outworld was a realm full of charms and flattery.

However, he made up for this with his loyalty. Without hesitation, he let go of his opponent and let down his guard to check on his friend.

Bi Han was still fighting with the man in blue. They had fallen to the ground in the courtyard, now they continued their fight and it seemed that the Grandmaster had no intention of being as careless as his brothers.

Full of brutality, he dodged each of the blows, not even bothering to pretend there was a chance of defeating him. Breathing calmly, he ducked away from a kick, caught up and delivered two swift punches to the face of Liu Kang's chosen one.

Dazed, he staggered back, only to be thrown against an ornate pillar by a powerful kick. Gasping, he tore his eyes open, but quickly regained his composure and saw his chance to escape from this unequal fight.

As nimble as a squirrel, he climbed up the wooden ornament back to the second floor. Bi Han looked after him with a growl, his black eyebrows drawn together.

You knew what he was thinking.

Escape, even if it was tactical, was a weakness for him. A Lin Kuei did not flee but fought to the last breath. Even if it meant being beaten black and blue.

Sighing, you had to suppress an amused grin. The two of them hadn't even passed their test yet and already they were unworthy to serve under Liu Kang in his eyes.

Still with his goal firmly in sight, he crushed a table. The wooden legs gave way and formed a ramp. He used this to catapult himself into the air with such a powerful leap that it tore the rest of the table apart.

He caught the man in blue out of the air, spun round and kicked him so hard that he stumbled backwards towards the bar. He would have fallen against the counter and broken his back if it hadn't been for a local who had been passing the time with alcohol the whole time.

Soberly, he reached for the swaying bottle of sake and poured some into his white porcelain cup. This revealed a butcher's knife stuck in the wood.

In visible desperation, the man in blue grabbed it and tried to hack at Bi Han. He hastily jumped back and dodged several blows. His gaze jumped up to you.

Now that the man was armed, with a sharp blade that could kill in his bottled hands, he needed a distraction. Even unskilled warriors were capable of fatally wounding people with enough adrenaline and will to survive.

No blood should flow that night. Especially not his.

So you jumped off the roof at the right moment.
