Blood was dripping down your arm. The wound wasn't deep, it hadn't hurt anything that was necessary to move you. But it burned as if your whole arm was in a vat of acid.
Clenching your teeth, you jumped to the side as Bi Han hurled Liu Kang's chosen one through the air with a mighty kick. Small drops of red traced a line of your movements across the wood.
Gasping, the man slammed with his back against the bar. His eyes wide open, he clawed at the edge, holding himself on his feet.
Bi Han walked slowly towards him. Ice smouldered on his hands, which he had clenched into fists.
All of a sudden, the self-confidence was gone from Liu Kang's champion's face. His eyes pierce the air uncertainly.
You took a step back. He looked at you, almost pleadingly.
"Grandmaster.", you gasped, your breathing shallow from the burning that clouded your mind.
The Lin Kuei Grandmaster did not stop. Instead, he grew a spear between his fingers and hurled it at the man as if he were an animal he wanted to hunt.
He managed to escape certain death just in time, rolled off and found himself in a triangle between you and Bi Han. Ice splintered in all directions.
It was suddenly so cold. The hairs on the back of your neck stood up. Your gaze jumped back to Bi Han.
"Bi Han.", you warned.
His brown eyes flickered. Unnecessary anger fought with the will to give in. But he couldn't just accept the fact that you had been injured.
The man took advantage of this tiny moment of hesitation, leapt forward and landed a hit on Lin Kuei's jaw. Hit by the force, Bi Han jerked his head back, briefly losing sight of his target.
More blows hit him. Thrown off balance, he stumbled against the floor railing, but turned to the side and returned the blows by grabbing the man's neck and smashing his head against a pillar.
Exhausted and panting, the chosen one clawed at the wood. A thick thread of blood ran out of his nose and wet his lips. His eyes were clouded, he definitely couldn't think straight, dazed.
With a satisfied grunt, Bi Han let go of him and glanced over his shoulder at you. Magic chased through your veins.
"We weren't supposed to hurt them.", you hissed through clenched teeth.
Nevertheless, you felt relieved that he did not continue to beat the visibly inferior man. He could have killed him, probably would have if your injuries weren't so trivial.
"Liu Kang should have chosen better.", he returned sullenly and walked towards you.
He turned his back on the man. At that precise moment, one last bit of adrenaline seemed to be coursing through his veins. A new fire flared up inside him.
With his fists clenched, he jumped back to his feet, blood running down his face and neck. The warning stuck in your throat when he suddenly charged at Bi Han from behind and kicked him.
Thrown off balance, the Grandmaster growled. Ice grew out of his back and dug into the sole of his attacker's foot. Blood was pouring out of several small holes.
Screaming, he tried to get away from him, but Bi Han's ice would not let him go. It grew up his leg, threatening to freeze his kneecaps and break everything into pieces. Blood became red crystals, growing like flowers through the ice.
Panic shone in the man's brown eyes.
"Bi Han!", you yelled.
But he didn't listen. Power tingled in your fingers. Holding your breath, you leapt forward. The ice threatened to tear the man to death as your fingers caressed the tanned skin of the Lin Kuei Grandmaster.
The power of your magic coursed through your veins. All his muscles tensed. Only when your influence had already spread to him did Bi Han look up at you.
"Mûdān!", he growled, warning and worried at the same time.
Sweat was already appearing on your forehead.
"Let him go.", you said, your voice trembling with effort.
The ice stopped growing. But it didn't retreat either. More and more of your magic flowed into Bi Han.
The man's exhausted, pain-distorted panting echoed in your ears. Your legs began to feel as heavy as stone.
Small wrinkles appeared on Bi Han's forehead as he furrowed his eyebrows in annoyance and a growl made his throat quiver.
He wouldn't let him go. Not after he hurt you and was so disrespectful to the Lin Kuei Grandmaster.
His muscles tensed in an attempt to resist your influence. Veins pressed against his skin. But you were stronger than him, more powerful.
With curled fingers you forced his body to call back the ice. And like a dog listening to its master, the spines shrank. Cracks shattered the surface. Sweat dripped down your temples.
You were cold. Your breathing was heavy, aching in your lungs. Suddenly, Bi Han's magic shattered into a thousand pieces. The ice scattered across the floor like small pieces of a mosaic.
Panting, you broke away from him.
Your magic was still tingling in your fingers. The blood boiled in your veins. It wanted more. But your body wasn't able to endure. You could barely stay on your feet when you took two steps back.
Fire crackled.
And suddenly Liu Kang appeared in front of you. Small flames flickered in his shiny black hair. It smelled of smoke and cinder.
The glowing eyes of the god of fire seemed to burn like the hottest fire. As if they could destroy the sun.
"Grandmaster.", Liu Kang's voice was dangerously calm.
Frowning, Bi Han withstood this silent reproach. Then he stood up briskly and straightened his shoulders.
"The Lin Kuei have tested the ones you chose as champion.", he bowed fleetingly before his gaze fell on you. "Unsatisfactory."
Liu Kang raised his eyebrows warningly before making a gesture.
All the Lin Kuei ninja around you now stood up. Tomas was the first to exchange a worried glance with you.
Inhaling deeply, you tightened your shoulders, pushed back the feeling of weakness and nausea and lifted your chin. Blood dripped over your fingers.
