As Ruhi rushed into the hospital, her heart pounded with worry. She quickly spotted her parents outside the ER. Ayan clung tightly to their mother, seeking comfort in her embrace, while Priya struggled to hold back her own tears. Her gaze shifted to Prem, who stood stoically, his face etched with concern. Swallowing the lump in her throat, Ruhi steeled herself and approached her family.
Prem looked up as Ruhi came and stood beside him. "Doctors are checking," he said gently, seeing the unshed tears in her eyes. He knew what the twins meant to his daughter, and he also knew she was not ready to accept any comfort from a man like him. However, the father in him wished to pull her closer. Taking a deep breath, he took a step towards her when the doctor stepped out of the ER, diverting their attention.
"Mr. Khanna, both Rudra and Abhay are doing fine. Luckily, it wasn't a major accident," the doctor informed, and the family took a breath of relief.
"Rudra has some minor scratches on his arms and legs, and Abhay has a small fracture in his arm. They both will need to rest for a week or two. Rudra has to use crutches for a while to help him move around, and Abhay will need his wrist in a splint to heal properly."
"Are they awake? Can we meet them?" Ruhi asked.
The doctor nodded, "They are awake. You can meet them, just make sure they rest to recover fully."
Ayan ran into the ward, followed by Priya. The doctor walked away. Prem and Ruhi looked at each other and then looked away. One wanted to start the conversation, while the other was confused by the latter's behavior. However, the dilemma was solved when Ruhi's bodyguard came towards her with a distressed look, making her frown.
"Ma'am, aapko kuch batana hai?" Krystal said hesitantly.
Ruhi nodded. However, Krystal glanced at Prem before looking back at Ruhi, who glared at her harder. Prem noticed the gesture and stepped back. It would be a lie if he said that he didn't feel a pinch in his heart. He turned to go inside the ward when he felt a tug on his hand. Turning back, he looked down to find Ruhi holding onto his hand.
"He is my father, Krystal... don't you dare do that again," Ruhi warned in her icy cold voice.
Krystal stepped back with a flinch and immediately apologized. She had only heard rumors among the acquaintances that the Khanna siblings had some problems with their parents, specifically with their father. So, she reacted the way she thought was right and regretted it immediately.
Prem felt warmth in his heart hearing Ruhi's words.
While Ruhi simply nodded, no matter what resentments she had against her father, she would never let anyone point a finger at him, nor would her brothers ever do that.
"Ma'am, the attack was supposed to be on you, but your brothers became the target," Krystal informed.
"Who did that? Any information?" Prem asked, noticing Ruhi stiffen.
Krystal shook her head, "Nothing yet, Sir... I was just informed that someone deliberately tampered with the engine wires, and I got CCTV footage from AARYA," she said, sliding the tablet towards the duo.
Prem and Ruhi watched as the masked man emerged from the car, his face completely covered. Due to the hoodie he was wearing, it was difficult for her to identify him.
"Have you seen him before?" Prem inquired of Ruhi.
Ruhi shook her head and sighed, feeling frustrated. Everything was already tiring, and now this new development.
Prem glanced at Krystal, returning her the tablet. "My secretary..." he trailed off as Pratik approached him with a concerned expression.
"Sir, the accident..."
