Chapter 14 - By Your Blade

Natsu's POV

Before Jose could make the first move, I rushed towards him. He raised his blade and slashed it towards me but I leapt to the side before it could touch me. With a quick twist of my body, I kicked his lower back and knocked him to the floor. He whipped his blade backwards towards my ankles but I instinctively jumped back.

As I took another step towards him, I sensed a presence behind me. "Natsu" I immediately recognised the voice and turned to see Jellal Fernandez, Erza's husband and also a former member of the Ten Sinner Godfathers back when he used to be called Seigrain back in the day. "Let me handle him. Your priority should be checking on Lucy" he suggested as he walked towards me. Obviously, I wanted to prioritise my beloved wife, but I also wanted to personally kill Jose for what he did to Lucy. With Jellal here, there was no question I would choose the former. "Give him hell but leave the final blow to me" I said as I turned my back to Jose and walked past Jellal. "I promise. You deserve that honour more than anyone" he replied as he removed his cloak.

I rushed towards the cell I saw Lucy in earlier and my heart stopped at the sight of her again. 'Please let Jose's words be a lie' I prayed. In my line of work, hoping for a miracle like this is useless but I hoped this was just a nightmare and I'd wake up to a better reality. I hurriedly grasped the cell lock and the intense heat from my gloves melted the lock away. Without the lock, the cell door swung open. I ran to her and fell to my knees beside her body. With a racing heart, I lifted her limp body and pressed two fingers to her neck to check for a pulse. My breath was caught in my throat as I waited to feel something, anything. "Please Lucy" I whispered in hope. A faint pulse brushed against my fingers, and I quickly let go of the breath I was holding.

"I'm here, Lucy. Stay with me" I said as I laid her on her back and put a finger to my earpiece. "Levy, send a medic down here immediately. Lucy's pulse is faint" I ordered. "Yes Boss" I heard her reply and I took off my jacket before laying it over Lucy's torso. "Wait here my love. Our kids need you and I have one last job I need to do" I said before leaning down and kissing her forehead. I stood up and walked back to where Jellal and Jose were.

Jellal had Jose on the floor, cornered and beaten. He noticed my presence and stepped away from Jose. "He's all yours" he said. I looked down at Jose, calculating which bone I wanted to break first. I stepped forward and stomped my foot down his left leg with a loud crack. Jose screamed in agony but I wasn't done. With a swift double-kick, I broke both of his arms. That wasn't the end, I didn't give him a break as I grabbed his hair and slammed his head against the wall behind him.

"Give me his blade" I ordered Jellal as I held Jose's head in place and within seconds, Jose's Shade Knife was in my hand. As soon as my hand grasped the hilt, the shade magic within the blade changed to my familiar flames. A sadistic smile grew on my face as all the ideas of how I could use this blade on him crossed my mind, if only I had more time. I raised the blade to his neck. A look of fear appeared on his face as he realised his death was creeping up and by the infamous Fire Dragon of Fairy Tail. "You used this blade on my wife so it's only fair that you die by it" I said and then I sliced his neck, severing his voice cord. His mouth opened and shut but no sound came out. Flames danced around the cut and I only had a few seconds before my flames engulf him. "Lucy won't be joining you in death. Enjoy hell you son of a bitch" I smirked. His eyes widened in surprise before the flames engulfed him. His flaming body withered in agony before becoming motionless and charred.

"Boss, you have three minutes to get out of there before the cops come" I heard Levy's voice in my earpiece. "Jose's dead. We're on our way" I replied and then turned to walk over to Lucy. As soon as I was close, I noticed Wendy and Gajeel next to her. Wendy was using her healing gloves to heal Lucy. "How's she doing?" I asked. "She's still weak but this should be enough until we get her to the car where I can continue her treatment" she replied. I crouched down and picked Lucy up into my arms. "Let's get out of here. Gajeel, give me a report on the battle along the way" I ordered and both Wendy and Gajeel nodded.

Without another word, we ran towards the exit. As we ran, Gajeel told me that our friends above had wiped out 90% of Phantom Lord from this branch. Jellal followed up and said his team wiped out the other Phantom Lord branches. After this attack, we'll track down the last 10% and eradicate all traces of Phantom Lord but right now Lucy's welfare takes priority. We reached the cars as we heard the sirens coming closer in the distance. "Lucy!" Laxus rushed over with a worried expression. "Let's get out of here" I said as we jumped into our black transport van.
