Chapter 3

---------------

**Soli**

I was caught off guard as he gazed at me, his eyes piercing through mine like a whispered secret. I quickly gathered my belongings and stood up from the chair, trying to shake off the lingering emotions.

"See you soon," he said, his voice barely above a whisper, as if he was afraid to speak it out loud.

I ignored him and walked away, trying to escape the palpable tension. I made my way to Rose's table, desperate for a distraction.

"Hey, are you heading to shopping?" Rose asked, her voice bright and cheerful, a stark contrast to the heavy atmosphere.

I hesitated, unsure of what to say. "Why would I go shopping?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant.

Rose's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Did you forget about Mike's birthday?"

My heart sank like a stone.

Oh no, I had forgotten! I thought I'd spent the whole day in bed.

"Mike's birthday?" I repeated, trying to feign surprise.

"Yeah, so let's go!" Rose exclaimed.

"Is everyone invited ?" I asked

"Doesn't matter," Rose said with a grin. "We're invited, and we have to get him something special."

"Alright let's go" I said

I reluctantly agreed, and after 40 minutes of shopping, we returned with our purchases. As we walked in the door, Mom was busy cooking dinner. i got home late mom was there still making dinner

As I walked into the kitchen, I called out, "I'm back!" and kicked off my shoes, slipping into my slippers. Mom turned around, a warm smile spreading across her face. "Hey, darling! Come give me a hug," she said, opening her arms wide.

But instead of embracing her, I hesitated. "Mom, I'm sorry. Did I make you wait?" I asked, feeling a twinge of guilt.

Mom's expression softened. "No, Soli, I just got home from work late too. We're both running on fumes tonight," she said with a laugh.

I nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. "Oh, so how was work?" I asked, trying to sound interested.

"Not bad," Mom replied with a shrug.

"Great," I said flatly, my mind still preoccupied with my earlier conversation with the guy.

Mom's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "And how was school?"

"It was great," I said quickly, not wanting to dwell on the drama that had unfolded earlier.

Mom smiled and pulled me into the chair opposite hers. "Good, come let's eat dinner," she said, placing the utensils in front of me.

I took a seat and began to eat, the food surprisingly delicious after a long day. But despite the warmth of the moment, I couldn't shake off the lingering emotions from earlier.

After dinner, I headed to my room, exhausted and emotional. I flopped onto my bed, the shopping bag still on the table beside me. As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't shake the feeling that things were unraveling before my eyes.
