Juliette POV

The flutter of wings and a screech woke me from a relatively restless sleep. A snowy owl swooped through the room and dropped a small roll of parchment on my bed.

"How did you even get in here?" I accosted the bird as it fluttered away.

I snatched the letter from the foot of the bed and found that it bore a Ministry seal. I held my breath as I opened it.

Miss Fontaine,

I am relieved to hear that you have discovered the true nature of this magical anomaly you have been investigating. I have received your request to extend your stay at Hogwarts. Since it is your impression is that this is a manner concerning student safety, I have approved your petition to extend your assignment. I trust that you will be able to resolve the manner by the Holidays and return to your post by January 1st.

Should you require additional support, do not hesitate to request assistance from Mr. McClaggen in the Auror office. They hold you in high esteem and we are grateful for all of the work you do for the Ministry and Gringotts.

- Faris Spavin, Minister for Magic

I held the letter to my chest as I sunk back into my pillows. One thing my notoriety afforded me was the discretion and trust of the Ministry. They tended to leave me to my own devices, and I preferred it that way. The last time they had assigned me a partner in the field ended.... poorly.

The timers I felt ticking had been reset. I would have more time to see Rosalie through her trials and more time with Sebastian as we figured out.. whatever this was.

____________

It was Sunday, leaving me plenty of time to visit Rosalie in the hospital wing. I found her awake and was not surprised that she already had a visitor. The blonde Ravenclaw girl sat on the foot of Rosalie's bed, regaling her with highlights from yesterday's quidditch match. Miss Parkinson had won the game for Ravenclaw when she caught the snitch less than 10 minutes in.

I thought it best not to interrupt, I did not want us talking about the trials or our magic in front of Miss Parkinson. The nurse informed me that her broken leg was still healing and she would not be able to leave the hospital wing until Tuesday. I felt awful for her, such a studious girl missing so much school during these first few weeks.

On my way out of the tower, I stopped by Sebastian's quarters. I knew I would be seeing him in a few hours but I simply could not contain my excitement. I knocked loudly on his door several times, but there was no answer.

No matter. I would surprise him with the news during this mysterious date.

By quarter-to-six I was pacing my room waiting for Sebastian to whisk me away for our "first date".

It felt so wrong and so right, at the same time. Like this was an inevitability, but it was happening 8 years too late. A pang of longing struck me, thinking of the years that could have been, if only we had acted on our feelings sooner.

I opted to wear my knee-length blue peasant dress with billowy sleeves and a corset bodice.
