2 years ago. Chicago.
Scott Duvall is sitting in a park with his sister Jessica Duvall as all seems to be quite serene. She laughs.
Jessica: You know, you really didn't have to bring me all the way out here for this.
Scott: (as he's smiling) Are you kidding? Ten's a big year. Becky would have come as well. But it's too soon for Jack to travel.
Jessica: Gretch can't wait to see her cousin. She looks so carefree. It's the childhood we never got.
Gretchen returns with a smile.
Gretchen: Uncle Scott, hold up your hands again. I wanna do the thing!
Jessica gasps.
Jessica: Gretchen!
Scott: It's okay, Jess.
Scott opens his hands.
Scott: Go on.
Gretchen hits Scott's palms repeatadly building up the kinetic charge. Scott closes his palms and then opens them to show a small ball of electricity.
Gretchen: So cool... make a bigger one.
The charge dies.
Scott: That's as big as I can make 'em, kiddo.
Gretchen: Aw...
The Duvalls walk away. The rest of Chicago is just as crowded today as always. The Duvalls eventually stop at an apartment.
Scott: I'll go nab a coffee before I come back. Want anything?
Jessica: I'm good.
Scott nods and leaves. After he gets the coffee and walks out of the coffee shop...
Tragedy strikes.
A sonic boom knocks him over as glass shatters. Debris flies through buildings causing explosions and crushing a few other people. Scott shouts as debris goes his way and hits him in the head, knocking him out.
He wakes a few minutes later to find dead bodies around him. He pants quickly upon feeling the shock of seeing the deceased. But his heart jumps once he sees his sister's apartment split in half.
Scott: NO! NO! JESSICA!
Scott runs over to the apartment. Mark flies over at a fast speed and catches the top half of the apartment all of the windows burst open and Scott is sent back by fore. Gretchen falls over and is caught by Mark.
Gretchen: MOMMY!
Invincible: Don't be scared! I got you!
Mark is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He can't hold up the apartment and continue to hold Gretchen. The apartment soon falls apart as it collapses to the street.
Scott: GRETCHEN!
Smoke and dust flies up. It roams around for a bit before it clears up. Scott looks to see the severed arm of his sister in Mark's hand.
Scott: No... Jessica...
Nolan flies down, grabs Mark by the neck, and flies off. He then sees you and Jasmine collide on the side of a building before you grab and her take her away. Once her realizes his just lost his niece and his sister he Scott cries to himself.
Present day. 2 years later.
Scott catches up to a woman in a parking lot with a dossier in his hand.
Scott: District Attorney Barnett. Sorry to ambush you like this, but you weren't returning my calls or my emails.
Barnett: And you are?
