Fathers day Chapter: Are you proud of me?

Y/N walked down a cobble pathway as he held some flowers in one hand, he walked down the streets of the capital as the moonlight provided little illumination. Though that was all that was needed for the few people still out to back away from Y/N with haste.

But Y/N didn't care about them. He was in his own world, he walked to the edge of the capital and through his own private gate. His walk continued with him moving close to the wall, though it would only be a mile.

Guards and flying vehicles and agents moved by, many avoiding Y/Ns general path except for the mindless spotlights that lined the lower walls.

That's when he saw what almost seemed like a mini version of the capital, shrouded in the shadow of the much larger one. Single City Redux. Or that was what everyone was calling it. It was still Single City.

He moved through the gate, being automatically let in by 2 agents, single city was even more quiet, most folks here preferred to stick to themselves. Fair enough, they knew what making a scene could cause.

He moved through the buildings to a more run down and depressing area, one that wasn't really that welcoming, but it was where what Y/N was after was located.

On newly dug soil was his father's grave, his mother and sister weren't buried too far away. But they had their own days. Y/N placed the flowers down with a tenderness he couldn't remember using for anyone except those people who he would lay his life down for, people like Quartz or Boombox, or his family.

He sat down in front of the grave and stayed silent for a moment. But then he took a deep breath.

Y/N: I know you can't hear me, and probably never will. But it feels good to say this to something familiar, even if I'm really just speaking to myself.

Pause.

Y/N: My birthdays in 10 days. I'm 20. And everyone's talking about me, "oh it's the leaders birthday we should make it grand". But sometimes I'm not sure if I'm someone worth being called a leader, or someone who should be celebrated. I mean, sure, I can rip a man's head off with my bare hands, and I can make a super weapon from a few scrap pieces. Sure I have the skills and knowledge. But am I the right person?

Pause.

Y/N: I have no doubts that I'd make an amazing engineer or elite agent, hell I was the best when I was just that. I felt needed, I felt like I deserved the love. But being a leader is different. Every mistake means so much. Every day is non stop work, and my body yearns for a break or a battle where I can shut off and let instinct do the rest! But I've raised myself to high I feel.

Memories of the past few months have come back.

Y/N: No longer can I just step into a battlefield, kill a few things and be happy with myself. People say I'm too good for them. They say the enemies aren't good enough to be killed by me, my bloodlust should be saved for the big threats like World Toppler. But then I just feel like I have to be forced up.

Pause.

Y/N: How did you do it? You made breakthroughs and massive discoveries, and you shaped the world and-

Y/N pulled out a poster of his dad's new revolutionary exoskeletons, the same one that would attach to Frost, the same one that made the alliance.

Y/N: You made my entire future. But also destroyed yourself by doing it.  And that's what scares me. Am I going to have to sacrifice and throw others at my problems until I'm forced to help. And sometimes that backfires, I mean Hunter ran off and we don't know where he is!

Y/N sighed before remembering what he next wanted to mention.

Y/N: I mean you have a granddaughter coming along, I still can't believe I couldn't defend myself, is it normal to be violated and feel guilty? Imagine if the others found out, the great leader couldn't defend himself against a random woman with some cool technology.

He sighed again.

Y/N: I just wanted to get this off my chest, I know you can't confirm, but I'm hoping, whatever I'm doing, I'm making you proud somehow, even if only a little.

???: You sure are kid.

Y/N recognised the accent and looked back to see Nokia.

Y/N: Oh. Hey- How long were you there?

Nokia: Just walked in on that last part.

Y/N was silent for a moment before getting up.

Y/N: Visiting someone as well?

Nokia: No, Luma said she saw you. Wanted to know if you needed somethin'.

Y/N: Just visiting.

Nokia: Hm.

Y/N: Quick question, be completely honest. Do you follow me because you want to? Or is it because everyone else does?

Nokia: Boy, I would have put a bullet in your head, all of them, if I didn't believe you could do this.

Y/N: So you-

Nokia: You're the best leader we could've gotten, a man who knows how to persevere after he loses everythin'. You lost it all, and made the scraps of it all into your everything, and built it into something greater than everythin' that came before that.

Y/N smiled slightly.

Y/N: I guess thats one way to look at it.

Nokia: Now, wanna get drinks with the Hi-Five?

Y/N: Sure. I've not got anything else to do for tonight.
