linger - the cranberriesTHE GIRL had never seen the boy so so empty.
She'd been surprised by crowds of paparazzi and fans before- so, while discomforting and disconcerting, it wasn't an issue for her to navigate within the crowd. Especially because she was short and small, easily being able to go unnoticed.
Walker...was different.
She assumed both of them would just find their way to the entrance of the hotel and join back together there, but once she reached the door, he was nowhere to be found.
She whipped back. There he was.
Standing still and frozen in the sea of the crowd, so numb.
Her stomach dropped.
Walker was many things.
Annoying? Yes.
Frustrating? Yes.
Sometimes, at the very least bit, kind? Also yes.
But the one thing he was not was dull. He was always full of life and emotion, bringing painfully sharp snark into every situation.
This shell of Walker, this almost-clone-like statue, scared her.
She desperately fought her way towards him, yelling at people to actually give him some semblance of personal space. Once she had gotten to him, it took her minutes to actually get his attention. It was as if he wasn't hearing her, wasn't recognizing her right in front of him.
"Walker. Walker."
"Walker, please."
Once she'd gotten him into her room, she saw another side of him that she'd never seen- this one, more scared, more sad, more broken than she could have ever imagined.
She could relate to being broken.
But she would have to hold it together for him.
Exiting the hotel and entering the studio-ordered van had been strangely peaceful. The volume of fans had heavily decreased and, this time, security ushered the two actors from the doors into the vehicle. It was much safer, much easier than before.
Ridley glanced over to Walker while they made their way to the car. He had seemed nervous in the lobby, but he was much more comfortable now.
Mr. Smith, being the closest to the children as their Acting coach, volunteered to chaperone them to their Airbnb. He had been silent the whole journey, but, once they'd gotten to the front door of the apartment, he began to speak.
"Here are your room keys." He handed a two pairs of keys to both her and Walker. "As always, food and groceries will be paid for by the company. If either of you need help, please do not hesitate to contact me, John, or anyone else. You did a good job, Ridley, calling me. Now, I know it's been a tiring and long night. I'll let you two get to sleep."
Walker and Ridley entered the apartment, suitcases dragging behind them. It was a small studio, decorated with simple neutral colors. Cute. To their left lay a large, comfortable seeming couch. To their right was the passageway to the kitchen and bed.
Bed.
Bed?
"Uhm, sunshine?"
"Yeah?"
"There's only one-"
"Bed. I know." Ridley sighed and fell onto the couch beside them. "This was the best they could get in a short amount of time. I guess one of us can take the couch?"
