she was in a coma for two and a half weeks. he sat with her every single day, talking to her cousins and her mother and her father. they said she had another boyfriend before him, but he wanted to be the strong one in the relationship, so he broke her heart.
her eyes opened twenty minutes after he sat down with her, and then nurses and doctors shooed him out and closed the curtains. he was happy and scared and hysterical, and so was everyone else.
she went home a week later, tired and weak. but alive. there were appointments and medication and lots of sleep. he kissed her and kissed her and kissed her. "i really love you," he said, "a lot."
