Emotions were bouncing around her. She felt the one Fury had before he left, along with the guard currently still standing at the door. But there were two more that had been previously surrounding her. One was intrigued, the other was thoughtful. Both had been laughing, though. She couldn't differentiate between the two and follow the line to where it lead, but she knew it was in front of her, behind the glass.
But just because she hadn't felt it anymore, didn't mean they weren't still there.
They were.
She just wasn't aware anymore.
The door whined when it opened.
Regardless of what Fury had told her earlier, they didn't send her down to the foyer. He was back to talk to her one last time.
He didn't sit down in the chair, he only walked in front of it, looking down at Brielle.
"One last thing," he said, folding his arms.
She nodded.
"Any idea why they called you that?"
"Kace Adhrit?" She asked for clarification.
He nodded.
"None."
He answered for her,
"You're watchful and can't be stopped."
The two men behind the glass still stood watching.
"Sounds like you," Bucky murmured to Steve.
Steve rolled his eyes.
She replied in a lower voice, "Didn't know that's why they called me that." Brielle shifted in her seat again.
"Except you did."
She cracked a glance up to him. One that said a simple and quiet, 'yes.'
Nothing more was said about the codename. Nothing more about the case at all. Or Brielle. She had questions, but she wasn't alone. They bounced around her head, but still remained unbothered.
Fury took a step back from the chair, standing a little taller.
"Well, the tests came back negative. Your prints weren't the ones found on the weapon."
"I could have told you that."
He looked at her disappointedly, unamused, "We'll be starting the search for who did these assassinations," he continued. "But we're recruiting you. You're going to be staying here for a while until we find out everything. Both about you and the person who did this."
"Thanks. I—" she paused, embarrassed on how she missed half of what he said. It didn't register as easily as it normally does.
"I what?"
"You heard me."
"Yeah, I did. But why? I don't even have my stuff to stay here. And how long-"
He stopped her ramble, "Remember the agents?"
"Yes."
"They already packed your bag—"
She frowned.
He continued, "—But it's only enough for a one night stay. You'll be staying longer than just one night now that we know what we know."
I knew I was missing my other pair of socks.
"Well that's great." She blandly replied.
And then the words set in.
She furrowed her brows, feeling it sink in her chest.
